When a Tyra Slator, widow, 31, residence Whaplode, married John Smith, Blacksmith, May 20 1838, she gave her father's name as William Bocock, labourer.

There's a baptism of a Thyatria Bowcock, 15 Mar 1807, Heckington, parents William and Elizabeth, father's occup. labourer.

Out of interest, is this your Tyra Bowent? I can appreciate the "... really hard person to find too!"

That sounds right! I lost all of my previous work so had to start again. Thanks for the rejog! This should help expand beyond Tyra/Thyatria

Lincolnshire / Slator/Slater - Whaplode & Saracen's Head
« on: Sunday 08 September 19 17:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have a bit of a wall. I have a Jesse Slator (1803-1836) who married a Tyra Bowent (<--- really hard person to find too!). On the death cert for Jesse, it states 'Blacksmith' and on his baptism that his parents were William & Mary.

I cannot find anything else on the parents. I can find a LOT of Slators in Whaplode, suggesting a large family.

Research on the area (and blacksmiths) brought up a book on Saracen's Head which named the Slators as having a lot of children at the school (aprox. 1890s) and that the blacksmiths were run by the Slator family for some years.

Welcome to Rootschat.
You can modify your profile to include surname interests as a footnote that will show when you make posts. That makes it easier for folks to see what your current interests are.

I needed to make a 2nd post to be able to do that ;) thanks anyway!

I have a Mary Slator (b: aprox. 1830 Whaplode) dau. of Jesse Slator & Tyra Bowent.

These are a brick wall for me.

Gedney and Whaplode are very close so could possibly be related?
