Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Deciphering a Birth Date
« on: Saturday 30 November 19 03:02 GMT (UK)  »
The person in question is no 1488 - John William Newton. Baptism is July 9, 1820. There's another column to the far right of the page, at the seam really - I'm not sure what it contains? Could it be the birth date? The column header indicates "By whom the ceremony was performed" but the entries are all dates?

Thoughts - suggestions - confirmation?

Thanks for the education GR2! It's appreciated.

Unfortunately, Scotland's People only has the one record that matches :(

So it looks like consensus is Aug 10, 1788

Thanks all, marking it solved.

Looking at the months:

May 5
Aug 10
Aug 12
Apr 20
Aug 10

I had assumed that if the 12th was accurate and if the page was written in descending order then it should be

1786
1786
1787
1788
1788

@ GR2 - What's the Tarves Register?
@ Wiggy - I'm not sure I understand what contracted and proclaimed means - I had assumed that's the day they signed their contract and were pronounced husband and wife?

Scotland's People indicates 00/00/1788

I think it's 10 Aug 1786?

Any others care to venture a date?

Yes, twice now I've had issues but they've responded brilliantly and provided new scans. Cheers Annie :)

Hello all, John Crawford married Isabel Mailer. This is the page from Scotland's People.

I see they're on the page several times. I'm looking for a transcription and explanation please.

For example: Oct 14: John Crawford in the paroch of Kinkoll -- Issobell Mailer in this were -- ---?
