Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Alexander Marr's Place of Baptism?
« on: Saturday 06 June 20 22:48 BST (UK)  »
Good day to you all!

I'm trying to decipher the place of baptism for Alexander Marr who was baptised on May 2 1720. Father's name is Thomas. The place looks like Anugstown, Angriston, or something like that but I can't find it on the web?

Thank you Kay and Sandy.

I downloaded the pdf from Sandy's link - there are a few Robert Meiklejohn's but more interestingly there's an Agnes Meiklejohn (nee Mouat). Robert's wife's name is Agnes Mowat - very much like the right stone. The only issue is that the Roberts in the pdf all died too early - I know from the Wills and Testaments section of the SP website that he died 29 Jan 1845. The pdf indicates Agnes passed in 1811 and there's a corresponding Robert in 1811????

I then subscribed to Stonehouse Heritage to get a look at their inscriptions but they didn't have any Meiklejohn's in their inscription database? Could there be two St. Ninian's kirkyards?

Stirlingshire / St. Ninian's Churchyard / Kirkyard Gravestones

Good evening, at least it is here :)

Does anyone know of an online repository of the gravestones within this kirkyard and transcriptions? Or is there a reference book cataloging the stones and inscriptions? I know from Robert Meiklejohn's will that he was buried at the St. Ninians churchyard - I presume his wife Agnes was also buried there, and so I'm looking to see if there's an image online or a transcription.

This is brilliant - thank you all so much.

Kay - the maps are excellent; especially the side by side.

So would Easterhouse be the building at Sappieside? Would Sappieside be the whole farm's name?

In the first image Robert Meiklejohn's will refers to Gateside, might that reference the property to the east of Sappieside?

Thank you all so much - interesting that here it's an irregular marriage?

GR2, you mention:

It would be interesting to see what the minutes of the kirk session said.

How does one go about obtaining or viewing the kirk session record?

Stirlingshire / identifying a farm and lands in St. Ninians
« on: Tuesday 26 May 20 04:46 BST (UK)  »
Good day!

I'm reviewing the will of Robert Meiklejohn and it appears his father (also Robert) constructed a house/farm on lands described as, I think:

Easterhouse in the stowland part of the mains of Chartershall called Sappieside

I'm not sure and am looking for help trying to figure out where this is, what constituted the estate/lands, and if there's any remnants of this today? Aswell a map if possible?

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Presbytery records for William Baird
« on: Monday 25 May 20 05:01 BST (UK)  »
More on William Baird that I can't figure out ???

So tantalizing when you can make out a few words but not the whole :(

From another record it appears William Baird had married prior to his relationship with Betrix Merry. They reside in Muiravonside. He's the son of William Baird & Beatrie Merry. This record is from 1694.

I'd love a full transcription including the margin please and thanks.
