England / Sent a letter, now Im worried...
« on: Monday 21 August 06 12:45 BST (UK)  »
I sent a letter to an address I found on b4usearch.com under the electoral roll details for the person I was looking for.

Ive just looked on another website for phone numbers etc, and the electoral roll address didnt come up for the same person, but two other people, same name - one more than likely to be her - was on there...

So now Im worried they have moved and wont receive my letter!  :-\  And it was hand written so I dont really have a convenient copy I can send to the other address/es...

What Im trying to ask, or get reassurance for, is if there is mail redirect in England? Im sure there is, but Im worried that they wont receive this letter (they have NO idea it is coming or that extended family exist - so its very important)...

I was thinking of maybe trying to ring the phone numbers I found online for the other addresses if I dont get a reply soon?  But how soon is too soon?

Ahhh now I kinda wish I hadnt found the other addresses/numbers.

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / 1901/1911 Census Lookup Please
« on: Sunday 28 May 06 08:11 BST (UK)  »
As part of my searches, I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to look up the following in the 1901 or 1911 census please?

Surname: ROUSE
District: Wolverhampton.

My possible connection was born Phoebe ROUSE in 1902.  I wondering if she would be on the census with her family? Or in 1901 if her family was still living in Wolverhampton?

Thanks

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Can anyone help? Ward or Phillips families?
« on: Saturday 27 May 06 11:19 BST (UK)  »
My grandmother: Phoebe Ward

So ive just found out that its highly likely that my grandmother was born in Staffordshire in 1920, not ireland as previously thought.. which meant she spent at least 19 of her years there considering she was married in Bilston in 1939..

So...

I was wondering, considering the year is not included in any currently viewable census, whether there is anyway anyone can help with finding out about the family?

I have her family address for when she was married:
2 Livingstone Road,
Bilston
August 1939.

And she was either born in Wolverhampton or West Bromwich (just awaiting birth certs to confirm which one)...

I have an incling she had an older brother, because there is an S. Ward as a witness, (and Im assuming to be a witness you had to be over 21?).. as well as a Mrs MA Ward (assuming her mum.. again awaiting birth certs).. but there is no S.Ward born in England to the two possible mothers maiden names... so methinks they moved to England from Ireland prior to her being born.

I just want to find out about the family... if she had siblings.. when her parents died (if they died in England)... but I dont know how to do this without the relevant census which wont come out for ages...

help!

Also, Im thinking of trying from the angle of her husbands family PHILLIPS (11 Guy Avenue, Low Hill, Wolverhampton - August 1939)....

Ireland / Ordering Birth Certificate... year unsure.. help!
« on: Thursday 25 May 06 04:56 BST (UK)  »
Im sending off a request for a birth certificate to the Irish Civil Registration Office, and I was wondering if it would be ok to put a small year range for the birth year?

My grandmother was married in 1939, apparently at age 19, giving her birth year to be either 1919 or 1920...

On my dads birth certificate, we worked out her birth year to be around 1922...

SO... would they still look if I write down 1919-1921?

Ive only got her name, fathers name, and mothers possible initials... and also we THINK she was born in Dublin...  thats all the information we have, and I desperately want to send off this order, but Ive been holding off thinking i dont have enough details.

Can anyone give me a hand or opinion please?

England / Migration between Ireland & England...
« on: Thursday 25 May 06 03:22 BST (UK)  »
Just wondering if there would have been any records of people or families moving from Ireland to England?

My grandmother (Phoebe Ward) was married in Bilston, Staffordshire in 1939, and Im guessing her family was there as well, because she was 19, and the witnesses were all Wards...

Our sources tell us though that she was Irish, born in Dublin (or so she told her children and on some birth certificates), so I was wondering if there would be any records of movement between the two countries at that time, or prior?

I have her fathers name, but I dont know if he would be too young to show up on the 1901 census?

Oh and I cant look at her death certificate because she disappeared in 1960ish and no-one has heard of her since.

Help?
