Armed Forces / Re: Lt Albert Ford Royal Navy

You could try www.forces-war-records.co.uk his name did come up when I did a search and shows him serving in 1951. Just how good their records are though I could not say.

Wallace was born 4 Jan 1910 and baptised at Crowle on 23 Jan 1910. His father was Arthur Parkin and his mother was Alice Louisa Barker. The record is on FindMyPast. He does not seem to be on the 1939 and since he would have been 29 he was probably already in the forces. FindMyPast also has Arthur and Alice's wedding registration and it shows Arthur's father was Wallace Parkin.

Leeds City Council have announced that litter bins will not be emptied so do not use them, that means the streets will be full of the tissues we are supposed to use and bin. We could of course fill our pockets with our used ones whilst out for our exercise but that is not exactly a good option especially if you are also shopping for essentials.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: Ethel Emerson death 1912

The death would have to be registered and since there was probably a postmortem it may have been the coroner that should have done it. Since the family did not have any money presumably she received a paupers burial, it would be worth contacting the council for that area asking them to look through their burial registers. A lot of councils have closed down most services so you may have a long wait before you ask them.

I can find a Percy born 1911 registered in Thorne, mother's maiden name Baxter. Still looking for Robert.

Kerby, I have found two occasions in my tree when someone has been counted twice, both times the fathers had forgotten that their now married daughter no longer lived with him.

I can only find the death of 4 Ethels registered in Dewsbury in 1912 and the only one in the right quarter is Ethel Brewer. It is certainly a sad tale but a sentence of 18 months is not much of a punishment.

The Lighter Side / Re: My new favourite Christian name - Evilina

My great, great grandfather's Christian name was Pulleine and as far I can find is the only person with that name which is great for tracking him. Until very recently I did not know where the name came from but I now know it was his maternal grandmother's maiden name. His mother died of typhus just a couple of months after his birth and must have wanted to remember her own mother.

My father's side has quite few Euphemias which always makes me think of music instruments.
