Family History Beginners Board / Re: Studholmes of Skirwith
« on: Sunday 05 January 20 19:33 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you...poor Annie...Beer='Plur' or 'Bur' née Studholme='Hidlecote' and now Roar Ding.....the attempt at Skirwith was just as bad. However, another transcriber wrote in exquisite copper plate that my grandmother Caroline was 'Catherine'.
2 of the Beer headstones at Rake's Lane are for my gt-grandmother and 2 children; the other is for her younger 2 children, including one whom I knew.
Oh, and Annie's husband joined the ''sur peial yeomanry'' (= imperial).

Annie Jane Studholme, born in Cumberland in 1878, married my gt-uncle Thomas E.D. Beer in West Derby in 1907.He was a steward on White Star liners and I finally traced him to a cemetery in Brooklyn, New York in 1909.His widow Annie and family lived in West Derby and are in the 1911 census under ''Plur/Hidlecote''. I have not found an entry for 1939. She died in 1947 in Wallasey (where her mother-in-law eventually lived & is buried) but I cannot find her burial.

Norfolk Lookup Requests / John William and/or John Morris Belton

Does anyone know if John Morris, nephew of Lucy (née Fuller) in 1841 census is the same person as my gt- gt- gt- grandfather John William Morris b. 6th December 1825 in Belton (Norfolk/Suffolk)? Several Morris headstones are in All Saints churchyard, including those of Lucy and her husband William plus a John b.1737.

Dumfriesshire / HOPE/Harkness muddle
« on: Sunday 05 January 20 10:58 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone in Dumfriesshire (Annan/ Graitney/Gretna area) know which Hope brother was the father of James Hope, brewer? Family notes state birth 1799,Rig's Farm Annan but I can only find earlier (1798) or later (1801),in Graitney. The Hopes married Harknesses/Herknesses...so I never quite get to an answer. Other family names on the birth records also recur (Irving/Irvine, Armstrong, Rea, Rome etc). Both James and his wife Ann died (1846,1844) in Knaresborough,Ann's home town.
