Ok that's all good. The 1911 census says 6 born/5 living. I think I've found the child that died so pretty sure now, the Elizabeth born 1888 is the one I want. Can only find 5 children born overall though  :-\

Scotland / Help with 1901 census please!
« on: Wednesday 04 August 21 14:22 BST (UK)  »
I have a 1911 census result for the Hendrie family, living at 50 Bank Street, Glasgow:

William - Head - 47 - Marine Engineer - Ayr
Margaret - Wife - 47 - Granton, Inverness
Elizabeth - Daughter - 19 - Plantation, Renfrew
George - Son - 16 - Glasgow
Margaret - Daughter - 12 - Paisley

My focus is Elizabeth - I found a birth certificate for an Elizabeth McGregor Hendrie dated 1888, in Govan, Glasgow. The fact that her age is quite off on this census and her marriage certificate the year later, makes me wonder if the birth cert is perhaps that of an older sister who died. I'm struggling to find the family on the 1901 census - can anyone help?

The second letter looks like an 'e'.  The 'i's at the end of the word are well dotted.

That's true  :-\

ninchitis

Thanks it does look like that doesn't it? But nothing really comes up on Google at all when I search it. Must be a very obscure term.

Wow, thank you for all that! What sources did you use for the BMD and census stuff?

Canada / John Duncan Drummond White

In my local cemetery in Comrie, Perthshire, Scotland is the grave of Sgt John Duncan Drummond White, a member of the Canadian Air Force who died in a training accident in England in 1942. I have found his service record on Ancestry - it is extremely detailed, but does not help me understand why he came to be buried where he is. My best guess at the moment is that a grandparent or grandparents were from Comrie. John's mother was Katherine Drummond, apparently born in Otonabee, Ontario. Does anyone know how I could find out more about her?? I'm not familiar with Canadian resources.
Additionally I would love to be in touch with any descendants - are there specific forums or online groups to try and achieve this?

Thank you very much for all this. I like your note that landowners often had estates in more than one place, which may explain a workers' movement.
I do believe John Mitchell and Janet Langwill are his parents, but cannot prove it absolutely as yet.
