Good evening,

This is most likely ww1. However, that uniform was extant 1908 to 1939. (Some troops were still wearing it early ww2).

I don't recognise the collar badge but will have a search around. Is there more to see on the original or is that the picture in it's entirety.

Thank you for the reply, thats the whole picture although the original is slightly clearer.

It might also be useful if you could post your grandfather's full name.
Good luck with your research.
Simon

His name was John Patrick McEvoy, cant seem to add it to the original post.

This man is possibly my grandads brother but i dont know his name.
Could anyone hazard a guess when this picture could have been taken from his uniform and also guess his age.

PS sorry for such a poor quality picture the original file size was huge and it the best i could do to reduce it down.

Could 16 year old Mary Quain in the 1901 census return for house 3 in Barrack Lane and Kate Quain registered as born on 12 February 1885 be one and the same person?

I only ask because a Mary Quane was baptised on 14 February 1885 in St. Munchin's RC parish for parents Martin Quane and John (sic) McMahon.  I can see baptisms in the same parish for the couple's other children - Johanna in 1886, Michael in 1887 and John in 1889 - but no baptism for a Kate/Catherine.
I assumed they were the same person or that i had the wrong census, Kate was born 12th feb 1885 so perhaps her name was changed in those 2 days.

Thats all i have as well, its like they all just disappeared, the 1911 census says she had 4 children 3 living so it must have been one of the girls that died between 1901 and 1911.

I have a date of birth for John as 9/08/1889 but i have no idea where i got that from.
So i have no marriage or death for those 3 kids.

Michael Thomas Quain is my great grandfather, i couldnt find a birth for him but a relative had a copy of his baptism certificate stating his birth as 30/09/1887

My 2x Great grandad is Martin Quain/Quane he married Johanna McMahon 1884 in Limerick.
I found 2 census that i believe to have Johanna in both stating she is a widow although i have doubts on the 1901 because of the different address and im not sure they had a daughter called Mary i only found Kate and Johanna.
