Australia / Re: Death Registration in Victoria 1970's
« on: Sunday 18 July 21 13:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I was looking up one of my relations, and I saw he died in 1974 but wasn't registered until some 16 months later.
Mum isn't here to ask, but I think he was mixing with the wrong crowd, and went missing.

Found some time later.

Not only helpful but I am learning 'search' techniques as well.

I will put it out there -

If anyone reading this thread wants help on the Victorian BDM (ie Australia) then PM me.
That's my bread and butter but I have some knowledge regarding the other states.

Thanks so much. I need to draw a breath and see what is outstanding.

I have Civil Births for Timothy MAHER & Kate GLEESON as follows - all in Cashel.

1910 - Hanoria (Nora)
1911 - Michael Christopher
1913 - Daniel
1915 - Thomas
1916 - Mary Anne
1918 - William

There may be more.

Hi helpers,

Just giving an update. Following through on a Michael MAHER in the 1901 Census, Nodstown North. As already worked out, I am looking for Michael, born 1833, the son of Thomas MAHER & Mary MYERS

Age of 70 looks pretty good. Says he is a widower. True age would be 67/68. 3 children listed (Nanno 38, Timothy 30, Michael 22) although it looks a bit patchy, may be more. 3

The 1911 Census, Michael is there again, this time at 80 years of age.
This time his son, Timothy is the Head of the House, with a wife and young daughter. Michael (now 34 years old) is single and still on the farm.
2 male Farm Servants & 1 Female Servant fits in with the idea that it was a farm of decent size.

Civil Birth Reg (1867) of Timothy reveals the mum as Honora MAHER, ie Michael MAHER married Honora MAHER.

Civil Death Reg (1885) shows the mum, Honora as passing away.

The dad, Michael passes away 1914, lists his age as 90! (looks errant), the informant, his son, Timothy.

Yet to find a Civil Marriage for Michael & Honorah so far, looks to have pre-dated Civil Records.
1901 Census says there was a daughter, Nanno (Hanorah), 38 years old, ie 1863 birth.
I did find a Civil Birth Reg for both Catherine (born 1865, looks to have passed away in 1866) and a Michael (born 1867).
All of these Civil records, mention Tubberadora - Nodstown - Nodstown North close to nearby Cashel.

Will check Boherlahan NLI for that marriage of Michael & Honoria & the 1863 (or so) birth of Hanorah (Nanno).

Barrett's Register of 1889 makes mention of four Maher's but no Thomas Maher. He was there in the Griffiths. He's passed away, in between those dates, and his wife, has travelled to Australia, buried in Melbourne with a daughter and 3 infant grandchildren.

Work in Progress.

I do see a Thomas Maher (occupier) at Thurlesbeg in the Griffiths. The mum at some stage, migrates to Melbourne (dies 1887), so Thomas pre-deceased her, one feels. But as for the other four, can't see a footprint for them in / around Cashel on the irishgenealogy.ie site.

1901 & 1911 not anything obvious either.

Hi heywood,

Not to my knowledge, the four I am missing are, baptised -

1833 - Michael
1838 - Mary
1843 - Daniel
1850 - Catherine

The three I found in Melbourne, Australia are baptised -

1836 - Bridget
1840 - John
1846 - Ellen

The two that died early were also named John (baptised 1828) & Ellen (baptised 1832).

But it is worth me re-looking at the Boherlahan NLI for a Margaret
Thanks for the possible lead.

I've had a close look at the Cashel civil records on irishgenealogy.ie for clues on the four children. I am guessing that is the CRD that would be most closely aligned to the Boherlahan Catholic Parish.

I will have a look for a Margaret on the Boherlahan births because I must admit, it wasn't myself who found the original nine, so there may have been one extra still hiding.

Tipperary / MAHER's of Thurlesbeg, Boherlahan, Tipperary
« on: Sunday 11 July 21 04:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

Ancestors of mine (9 siblings, children of Thomas MAHER & Margaret MYERS/MAYERS/MYRES) were baptised in the Boherlahan Parish, the catholic records showing their address at the time as Thurlesbeg, which if I understand correctly is near Nodstown. The eldest two died in their infancy, while 3 I have traced to Australia. The other 4, I have no idea where they got to. Their baptisms took place from 1833 to 1850.

The question I have is, if the family stayed in the area, and they married, grew their families etc, which Tipperary Civil Parish would those records be most likely to be held?

Regards,

BB
