There is this possible, maybe Annie is a nickname or middle name?

Did you miss this post?

I've seen it and now I've entered all that info in to my family tree it appears she married 3 times in 11 years as her first two husbands died only a couple of years after she married them (suspicious haha)

Thank you Cas and Mckha - you've been a big help and helped me solve the mystery!

In 1901 that Dempsey family includes a daughter . Same address

Annie   Dempsey   Daughter   Single   Female   13   1888

Thank you so much! That's just what I've been looking for - still puzzled as to why i can't find her marriage or any record of other than her sons births certificate in 1905 - so it seems she was living with her family or at least was there at the time of giving birth to her son in 1905. Maybe she didn't marry him? I'm not sure, i can't find her, her husband and son anywhere else.

Very grateful for your help!

Example

Annie Dempsey marries Joe Bloggs - he dies

Annie Bloggs marries George Mead but any children born to either marriage will always shows Annies birth surname of Dempsey as that is her true maiden name

I did find a George Mead that married an Annie Eliza Stammers in 1903 which seems about the right time in Essex although Chelmsford way does seem a bit far away but could be possible. I can't find George Mead marrying another Annie in the right time frame. Without knowing when or where either of them are born i can't really whittle it down

Possibly Annie was previously married in which case any marriage would be under her previous married name - not Dempsey

Yes i didn't think of that! Would explain why I'm finding it so difficult to find their marriage listed! Makes things alot harder - the marriage cert says formally dempsey rather than nee - not sure if that makes a difference or if it was just how they recorded names on the birth certificate

Is this another child?

MEAD, ARTHUR  WILLIAM     DEMPSEY
GRO Reference: 1907  M Quarter in SOUTHWARK  Volume 01D  Page 32

What is George’s occupation on the birth cert?
Who was the informant?

Hi, I don't have any info on siblings so potentially!

On birth cert it says he was a dock laborer, no informant just registrar information

Hi all,

I'm searching for Annie Dempsey and George Mead, they are the parents of George James Mead born 1905 in St Olave, London. George James's birth cert states he was born 6th June 1905 on Swan Lane in Rotherhithe to George and Annie Mead formally Dempsey - I can't seem to find any info on them. I found what i believe to be George James aged 5 in 1911 as a boarder in Collingwood College, 29 Leyland Road, Lee - although this isn't confirmed to be him. George James went on the marry Annie Terry in 1925.

Please can anyone help, i've been looking for hours and haven't come up with anything! I can't find dates of birth or death dates and i can't find a record of their marriage either.

Katie x

Above index would suggest that her MMN was Steele...have you viewed the actual certificate to see what info it contains? It should have her father and mother's full names, provided those were known to the informant and the knowledge was accurate. Does the father, if named, match the name on the marriage record?

At the moment, I am not seeing any other record/s containing a 'William McCrory Steele', so all/any clues from the Scottish death certificate of Agnes/Nancy are important.

Thank you! Think ill need to pay to see the certificate as it's unlike the irish certs which i can just view online for free!

In case it links in anyway, Nancy Steele gave her address as Mill Street when she married. In the 1850s, there was:

Adam Steele, grocer, baker, wine and spirit dealer, Mill Street

There was still an Adam Steele in Mill Street in the Valuation Revision books until 1867, possibly the same Adam who died:

ADAM STEELE
Date of Death   1870
SR District/Reg Area   Ballymena
Deceased Age at Death   65
Returns Year   1870

Thank you for this, will def keep this is mind! x

Was their third child born in Scotland? I can see Mary Jane (1868) and Anne (1870), both born near Armoy in Ballycastle district:

Deaths in Renfrewshire in timescale:

FORSYTH
ANN
2
STEELE
F

I wonder if the 1872 death above was the Ann/e born in Armoy area? Could the 1884 death of the Robert also have been one of their children (given they were in Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire by at least 1881)?

The 1881 census for Port Glasgow has Robert and Agnes with children Mary J, born Ireland (so ties with the Armoy area birth) as well as an Agnes and Margaret, both born in Old Monkland district, Lanarkshire.

So, even if Robert was not one of their children, there were still more than 3 children born in total.

This has been very helpful and has helped me add a couple extra children to the tree x
