Joanne,
I am also trying to find info on Oakhill Home,  my grandmother who was unmarried in the 1920's gave birth to my father who was then adopted by a couple who were in the Salvation Army at the time.  Sadly everyone I can ask has now died, did you find out anymore?

Unfortunately not. I did send a message to the email address that Sue gave me but never recieved a reply. Can't seem to find the email address either, but if I do I will send it to you.

I have an Alice Davis in my tree born 1852 in Shoreditch. Unfortunateley I don't know who she married but I shall be having a look just in case.
How old does the lady in the photo look?

One Name Studies: T to Z / Re: Whitehouse index
« on: Tuesday 28 October 08 01:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hello again,
Sorry for any previous misunderstanding, didn't realise it was a personal site as link didn't work for me.
Was prompted by recent post to try link again and this time it worked fine.
I think I may have found my ancestor on your probate and grants index. Though I am not sure what this implies.
How would I add my Whitehouse info to your database.
My 5 times gt.Grandfather was Joseph Whitehouse, b. 1802 Oldbury; his daughter Sarah b. 1824 Tipton married James Davies b. 1818 Oldbury; but interestingly their daughter Honor b.1847 married James Parry.
Please advise on how to add info if that is possible.

The Common Room / how to request a look up
« on: Saturday 05 April 08 03:13 BST (UK)  »

Could anyone help by telling me the best way to request a look up in Scotland? I have already found and ordered a certificate on Scotlands People, However, this is not only for personal interest but for completing essay for History course. Scotlands people are running behind schedule for deliveries so this will hold up my research. If anyone is in a position to check out the details of said certificate/record before this time I would be very grateful. I have all serial numbers etcetera to make this task easier for anybody close to records office.

Thanks in advance

Ayrshire / Need Archibald Johnstone "1955" details.
« on: Saturday 29 March 08 00:46 GMT (UK)  »
Where would I post a look up request on Scotland board?
I have ordered a birth certificate from Scotlands People Site for Archibald Johnstone b. 1955 in Irvine Ayshire.  I need this cert. or details on it pretty quickly as I have an essay to complete for my History degree/ module in genealogy. Unfortunateley Scotlands people are behind schedule and I may have to wait a month to see it.
I wondered if anyone might be going to Edinburgh records office who could possibly find out details on the certificate for me?

Lancashire / Re: Boarding house @ Blackpool

Nice one Martin, that gives me another idea. I could have a look in Blackpool library at the electoral registers to see how long they lived there. Can't get there till next week though.
That is, if Natalie would like me to.

Warbreck Drive is a very long road which runs from the North end of Blackpool through to Bispham, and is very close to the promenade. There are indeed thousands of boarding houses in Blackpool of varying sizes. However Warbreck Drive is now predominantly residential.
Do you have the number of the house ? If so I could maybe go along and take a couple of snapshots for you.

Maybe beneficiaries... Could you try to post an image as it is easier to "fill" in words within a complete text.
