The Tree Leaf, by means of it's three points, would symbolically represent the 'Father, Son and Holy Spirit', and would traditionally be engraved on a deceased gravestone.

In this case, as a separate stone, I believe it would have been positioned there, in order to acknowledge the bond of the adjacent deceased Father and Son. Who, after death, are both deemed to be in the hands of, and guided by the Holy Spirit.

Both parties were noted as being of Full Age. Therefore, that puts Ann Waters birth  year earlier than 1870, and assuming she was at least 21 years old, at the time of marriage, would give a birth year of 1864 or earlier.

Assuming of course, She gave Her correct age to the Registrar.
