Apologies all, I read this forum and gaze in wonder with the photos and your skills each day.

You all have photos I can only dream of having  :( and an art of mending them.

Thanks all for a little bit of enjoyment at looking at your treasured items and the work that goes in!

Bedfordshire / Where next in Bedford
« on: Tuesday 26 September 06 23:27 BST (UK)  »
Great Grrandparents got married in Holy Trinty,  Bedford in 1883. Tracing them through the following census and where my grandmother was born they always lived within close distance.

Problem is going through the fiche for baptisims at the SOG last weekend none of their children were baptised there.  GGD is a brick wall before they married. but her family seemed to love filling in forms and registering people.

I want to look at other churches without hopefully going through them a-z

What would possibly be the next place they would have gone to, to have their children baptised? The last child I am aware of was born in 1900.

No problem going through  all of the fiche if  I have to but I would like to put off getting glasses for a while if you know what I mean..........  :-[

Thank you!

Dortmund,

The medal rolls for the Navy are on microfilm at the National Archives and are not on line yet. ( Not sure if they are going to put them on there).

ohh I've just thought of one bug bear!  :o

When Babs hubby was searching the census, he just tapped in the full name and place and up the person popped.

Alot of the time we know we have to use wild cards or not add bits of info and then start adding bits. It seemed a bit too easy to pop in the details and have the correct record come up first time.

Armed Forces / Re: Japanese POW
« on: Wednesday 06 September 06 22:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi cicely :)

My dad was a prisioner of war in a Japanese camp during ww2

I remember odd stories he had told me which I have managed to confirm by creative googling and research in the National Archives.  In the NA  I found an eight month diary of someone in the same camp as he was, also a report made after the war about the conditions in the camp. They also hold thousands of cards that POWs filled in after the war, it was planned that every POW filled on it but that didn't happen but you may find something there.

By googling pictures I found some photos of the people in charge of the camp surrendering, which really choked me, seeing the face of a man that caused for what ever reason such inhumanity.

May I also suggest you look at
www.cofepow.org.uk as your first point of contact.
