Ireland / Re: where is Noone?
« on: Friday 01 December 23 10:54 GMT (UK)  »
Another daughter Jane was married in Monkstown church in 1844. I wonder was it just some sort of misprint?

**edit
I find the exact same wording in a second newspaper, also saying 'Noone church' but can find no other reference to Noone church anywhere, other than those two copies of their mariage.

Was he a musician? There is a Thomas Fitzpatrick died 29th October 1982 in Ballingarry.
If it's him, there is a fairly big article on him in the Tipperary Star.
Number of Wexford people at the funeral.

PM me an email address if you want it.

Irish names like Brian required the priests to become inventive with their Latin translation - Bernard or Barnaby were both used for Brian.

Ireland / Re: Festus Fielden - needle in a haystack?

Festus in Ireland as a first name is very much localised around County Galway (particularly Clifden).
In the 1901 census only 2 out of 120 men called Festus were not born in County Galway.
In 1911 it was 7 out of 112.

If we add in the Festy records, it is 5 non Galway out of 218 in 1901 and 6 non Galway out of 205 in 1911.

I heard it described once as a stew. We all have a bowl, but I have a bit more beef than carrots, you have more celery than beef and sister Mary is the only one got mushrooms, but we all got our stew from the same pot.

In the past, when there was a death they could not explain, they sometimes called it a 'visitation from God'.
I am very sorry for your loss.

I can't find any civil entries for any of the Church marriages on that page.
