Springett is a long standing family name in Rowhedge, which is close to Colchester.
But more importantly for you are the long established Springett family who have lived in Shrub End Road for many years. I am quite sure that there would be a connection to your Springett.

Kent / Millington mystery
« on: Thursday 05 April 07 15:52 BST (UK)  »
My 3 x g grandparents were Frederick Gillham b.1811 Dartford Kent and Dinah Millington b.1815 Quebec North America, according to the census.
Dianh has her father living with them in 1861 Dartford. and he is a carpenter. Any one know how you would go about find why a carpenter born in Danbury Essex would have gone to Canada and had a daughter out there at such an early time. What is there I can look at to help me??
I am out of my depth with this one.

The Berechurch Arms ( which is now called the Huntsmans Tavern ) is on Shrub End Road and so could never have been in Lexden. Are we sure it is the same place ?

My 2x Great Grandfather Philip Guckes died in Southwark in 1928. Does anyone know of the nearest cemetery or as its London ( country boy talking ) would there be a choice of several ?

You may well be right. It certainly was a different world for women back then.
