London and Middlesex / Re: Charles & Theodosia Allen 1837-1871 ???
« on: Friday 30 December 11 19:46 GMT (UK)  »
The transcription for Theodosia is wrong. Her surname was Osborne and her address at the time was 47 Edgware Road. Whilst Charles was living in Enfield. As Theodosia came from Sible Hedingham, Essex it is always possible Charles came from further afield also. You are correct about the number of Allen's in Marylebone who may or maynot be related to Charles.
Its very unusual not to have any "possibles" on the census. It normally means the people have died or emmigrated. But the fact Theodosia suddenley appears years later makes me think that they are "hidden" in the census somewhere.

I have found out that 47 Edgware Road is now a Deli. and so perhaps was always a shop where Charles ran his Shoemakers from. Can't find any trade directories old enough to help. Also from what I am discovering the Edgware road was still pretty much in the countryside in 1837. I am not local so at a disadvantage trying to piece together all the clues.

London and Middlesex / Charles & Theodosia Allen 1837-1871 ???
« on: Friday 30 December 11 16:29 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me locate Charles & Theodosia Allen on the 1841,51 & 61 census or give me a clue what else may have happened to them after their wedding on Sep. 13th 1837 at St Mary's Church, Marylebone. Theodosia was living at 47 Edware Road at the time of the marriage ?

                                 Thanks

Hi George

My 3xGreat Grandfather William Osborne married Mary Green in Sible Hedingham abt 1805. There was/is a thriving Independent Church in neighbouring Castle Hedingham and the records for that are online. There seems to have been a flourishing Green population at that time in both Sible & Castle Hedingham.

                              Hope its of help

Hi

There were either two William Osborne's or he was married twice. As far as I know William 1785 from Melford is my 3x Great Grandfather and married Mary Green.

Hi Frank

Its all too far away from my tree I'm afraid. My link into the Calvetti's is remote and by marriage. My 1st Cousin x1 Winnifred Grace Underwood married Charles F Calvett in 1941.
