Hertfordshire Lookup Requests / Settlement docs The Poor Index CUTT
« on: Wednesday 11 August 21 00:30 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I am in Australia. After paying the Herts County Council for a document on their catalogue index, they have just advised that due to their exit from the European Union, they now cannot accept overseas orders. I'm waiting for a refund. I'm very disappointed and am wondering if someone would be able to kindly lookup this Settlement document for me please? I am unsure from the index if it is a settlement examination, settlement certificate or removal order. I'm hoping optimistically for all three!

Description - The Poor Index 74250030094
D/P116/8/2, Thomas Cutt, Oct 23 1749, from Tewin to Ware

kind regards

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / London Metropolitan Archives Lookup Please
« on: Thursday 24 August 17 08:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone would be heading to the LMA in the near future?  I live in Australia so am unable to do the research myself but am looking for some records from Clerkenwell Prison/Middlesex House of Correction "List of Prisoners Tried" Reference Code: MJ/CP/B for 1855/56.

I am looking for an ancestor Mary Ann STOW who according to the burial registers of the Victoria Park Cemetery, Hackney, state she died in the House of Correction on 14 May 1856, aged 51.

Mary Ann Stow was born in 1804 in Greenwich to parents John Stow and Mary Beaver.

I know Mary Ann (dressmaker) was convicted of larceny in Greenwich (stealing linen, cotton, etc) in October 1844 with the sentence of 1 year. This trial appears on the Old Bailey Online records. She then appears in the 1851 Camberwell Surrey Census - lodger, dressmaker at 5 Little Orchard Row with Spong family.

Unfortunately I can't find any further convictions or newspaper articles about her later conviction (found plenty on the 1844 conviction), but she must have been convicted at some stage to have died in the House of Correction in 1856.

Any help would be most appreciated.

cheers

Kent Lookup Requests / Deptford, Kent burial lookup please - Ann/e Davis d 1840
« on: Tuesday 22 March 16 04:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
Would someone please have access to burials for Deptford, Kent?
My ancestor Ann/e KEECH (wife of chemist James KEECH) of 4 New King Street, Deptford, Kent died on 1 May 1840.
I would be most grateful if someone could look up burial record for me (or advise where to find it).
I think the records are held at the London Metro Archives.

Also her husband James KEECH died around July-Sept 1846 at the same address.

My ancestor Samuel Samson Davis of Aldgate, London has been on my ‘most wanted’ list for over 20 years. I have gathered much information on his marriage, children, occupational life, and burial, but can’t find anything of his origins (birth, baptism, parentage).
I have researched all the known baptisms for Samuel/Samson DAVIS – but cannot confirm the correct one.

KNOWN FACTS
Born approximately 1781, probably in London. (from age at burial).
1803 – marriage to Betty HOLBROOK at St James, Paddington – stating he was ‘of this parish’.
1804 – 1st son Samuel born Prescot Street, Whitechapel, baptised St Mary Whitechapel.
1805 – 1818 worked Tower of London, living at 4 Upper East Smithfield, Aldgate.
1807 – 2nd son Joseph born Butlers Buildings, East Smithfield, baptised St Botolph, Aldgate
1809 - 1832 Butlers Buildings/4 Upper East Smithfield, Aldgate.
1832 – death & burial 4 Upper East Smithfield, buried at St Botolph, Aldgate.

*Samuel had a sister Ann (died 1840) who married James Keech a chemist of Deptford, Kent (1796-1846) at St Dunstan’s, Stepney on 24 July 1823. No children found. (Ann was mentioned in Samuel’s will of 1832 naming her as a guardian of his surviving 9 children).

Samuel and Betty’s children were – Samuel 1804, Joseph 1807, Sarah 1809, Elizabeth 1811, Ann 1813, Catherine 1814, Mary 1816, Samson 1818, and John 1821.
I am descended from their third son, Dr Samson Davis who immigrated with his family to Melbourne, Australia in 1852.

RESEARCH CONDUCTED
Trade & post office directories, taxation records, death duties, occupational records (apprenticeship, guild, freedom, trade, company, Tower staff records, board of ordnance), patents, newspapers, obituaries, magazines, property, insurance, will, burial, marriage, baptism of all children.
Checked Paddington St James baptisms and marriages (for his own and his parents)
Followed up possible London baptisms, but unable to confirm. (1779 St Mary Whitechapel is not him!)
FamilySearch entry regarding Samuel Samson DAVIS is my own old, incorrect entry.
Had my male line DNA tested to look for possible connections.
Checked all London wills of Samuel and Samson DAVIS in case they were his father – all ruled out!

Any advice on where else to look for his origins would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hello
I am wondering if someone has access to the parish baptisms and/or marriages for Winslow, Bucks?
I am looking for any RAWBONE baptism - but particularly Thomas Rawbone who was baptised here around 1752.  He was the schoolmaster at Winslow (along with his son John) for many years.
He married Hannah Taylor at Winslow in 15 Oct 1779.

If anyone else is looking for Winslow records this website is fantastic -

Any help greatly appreciated.
