Thank you for the information and your advice Goldie. I didn't know those wills were at Find my Past as I haven't checked there for a while.
So far I have found 2 William Beresfords of the right age in Derbyshire and one in Staffordshire. I found William and Jane's eldest child. He was William born Doveridge 1763. I have Jane's father's line but not her mother's. Hopefully the wills may give me some clues.

Thanks Rosie
It's interesting that Ann married the following year and John in 1865. Unfortunately neither name connects to my tree at the moment.
I haven't found a baptism for William at Longford and there are several possibilities in nearby areas.

My 4X gr grandparents were William Beresford and Jane Mycocke who married at Longford in 1759. I have traced Jane's line but am having problems with William. He died in 1801 at Snelston age 65 which makes his birth 1734/5 but there is more than one possibility. I wondered if the actual marriage registration might show his father or witnesses that could give me a clue. Can anyone look it up for me?

It does look as though William was Sarah's brother. There are a lot of William Perry's around. I did find one in a later census with Thomas and Ann parents but he was down as unmarried  maybe he was widowed.
I will look into it some more. The family did move around a lot!

That is interesting, I will look further into that. I'm starting to wonder if Joseph was born in Shropshire on a visit for some reason but his family didn't actually live there, especially as there doesn't seem to be a baptism and the rest of the family are from Wolverhampton.

Thank you so much Trish, William Rogers is likely to be John's father William so it looks as though there may well be a family connection.
I wonder if Martha's mother Sarah Perry could be Joseph's aunt, William's sister. All I know is she was born about 1804 and married her husband John Mayo in Walsall in 1825 and that he came from Bloxwich.

Hi Mick,
I just came across your post. I am married to Clarence Ashton's son David. I'm not sure what you want to know. Clarence's wife Mabel grew up in Derbyshire but left well before she married. Clarence and his brother Frank both served in the army in the second world war. My husband has lost touch with his father's sibling's families but I have done a fair bit of research on the family and may still have a contact email for Percy's family in Australia. Let me know what you are trying to find out.

Thanks both of you for that. I did know about Joseph's marriages but I didn't know the one to Caroline Cope was Catholic. That is interesting as the Rogers were Catholic. Martha's mother was Sarah Perry. She married in Walsall but her husband was from Bloxwich. There was a Father John Perry who was connected to a Catholic Church in Bloxwich, St Thomas the Apostle. I'm wondering if there is a connection but can't seem to find any more out.

Shropshire Lookup Requests / Look up Joseph Perry, Clee Hill/Middleton Shropshire
« on: Wednesday 08 July 20 21:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I'm trying to find a baptism record for Joseph Perry who was born 1826/7 in Clee Hill/Middleton Shropshire. In the 1861 census he and his 8 year old daughter Mary are living with my great great grandparents John and Martha Rogers in Wolverhampton. Martha's mother's maiden name was Perry and I am trying to find if there may be a family connection as I know nothing about her prior to her marriage. I thought this might be a clue. Joseph lists Clee Hill as his birthplace in 1861 and Middleton in other censuses. So far I can't find a baptism for him. Can anyone help?
