Technical Help / Re: Wiping old computer
« on: Monday 25 September 06 18:14 BST (UK)  »
I'm not sure if this will work but it others might help me here.

I have a program called Evidence Eliminator. I use it to keep my hard drive clean. I have no great secrets to hide. However, if my computer was going to the great unknown, surely a second hard drive plus "evidence" would solve the problem. In other words, format the drive, then use evidence eliminator on a second drive to clean the other one. It  can completely clean a hard drive with no residual info left. Check their web site.

Canada Lookup Requests Completed / Allan's in Manitoba.
« on: Saturday 23 September 06 15:50 BST (UK)  »
Alexander Christie Allan migrated from Falkirk, Scotland to Brandon around 1912/1914.
He enlisted in Lord Strathcona's Horse in 1917 and served in France, returning to Brandon in 1919 when he joined the Fire Department.  He may have later worked in a candy factory in Winnipeg.  He is believed to have married Margaret Johnston in 1926, although the marriage can not be found in the Manitoba BDM web site.

Any advice/assistance in forward tracing would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps this has been said already, in which case I apologies for the duplication.

I can not use Active X because the screen will freeze. This only happens with Scotland's People and they have said it is their problem and they are working on it. For me, the best alternative is direct download and the best way to save something is to go back from the image and right click on the item's I.D. and select "save target as" and you can save it to wherever. I always save to my pictures because it is easy to edit and also to bring up on Irfanview.

Images which appear to have been lost and credits deducted can be found under "Viewed Images"

Hi Linda.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that, according to a cousin in Scotland, Alexander got married in 1926 to Mgt. Johnston.

I have not been able to find this marriage.

Thanks for trying.

Rob.

Thanks Karen.

You were right,  lots of hits.  This is interesting.

I've been to Winnipeg many times and did not know of any candy factory.

Now, if I could find Alexander Allan so fast, that would be great.

Does anyone know about a candy factory that may have been operating in the Winnipeg area around 1920 / 1930.

I am trying to find Alexander Allan who migrated to the area around 1920 and I am told he was working at one point in a candy factory.

Thnx.

South Africa / Searcing for Keenan
« on: Saturday 24 June 06 19:24 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for Jeanie Bryce Keenan who emigrated to South Africa from Glasgow, and got married there. I am guesiing that this would be between 1906  and  1920.

It is believed that the man she married turned to be a bigamist, so she left him and opened a boarding house.  Sorry but this is all the information I have.

Any advice and asisstance would be appreciated.

Thanks for the information.

I will order the extract since that is probably the best way for me to go.

Thanks again,
Rob

Hi Pam.

You are quite right.  I never noticed it before but there is an entry to left of the certificate which refers to a corrected entry, Vol, 7 page 49, 7 June, 1893.

The death was on 23 May, 1893.

I do not know how to access this so I have asked Scotland's People for the answer.

Thanks for the help.

Rob.
