For once I'm not asking for a miracle...
Not a romantic photo, but it's so dark I wondered if someone could lighten it up a bit for me...

It's my dear little Dad, he's the funny little chap sitting(don't count the one on the end who is kneeling) second from the left, front row.
It was taken at the fire station, when he was 'doing his bit' during WW2.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Gramfer, braces and all
« on: Sunday 02 March 08 18:27 GMT (UK)  »
It seems a shame that although I have that lovely studio portrait of Gran Harriet, flashing her curtain ring ooops, wedding ring.... I have none of her husband, my Grandfather William.

This is the best I can do... a snapshot taken by my Mum, May 1928 Alpine St, Reading.

He looks such a dear old man, with his braces and pipe...

Please, please, please could someone touch him up and give him a dab of colour....
After all, why should Gran Harriet have all the glory...

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Mum's cracking up....
« on: Thursday 21 February 08 12:57 GMT (UK)  »
Last one from me for a while, and a bit of an emergency.

I have this photo of my little Mum (very little at this stage) with her big brother, William Stevens Mathias (third of that name.)
It was taken shortly before he sailed for Canada.

The card was in a bad way, and when I picked it up the other day................well, you can see what's happened, now the picture is in a worse way.

Can someone please, please, please put it back together for me....
Thanks in advance,
Paula ( kind of distraught at what I did at the minute)

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Golden/silver wedding
« on: Saturday 16 February 08 16:18 GMT (UK)  »
After the picture of Gran Harriet flashing her curtain/wedding ring?
Here is a photo of her with her husband, my Grandfather William Mathias ot what should have been their golden wedding, but was in reality their Silver Wedding day.

It really is in a bad way. Could someone tidy it up for me please, and would I be pushing my luck to ask for a bit of colour...?
Would be very grateful.
Paula

It's me on the scrounge again...
I have two photos, I think of my Uncle Bill and Gran Sarah...
well, looks like them...
They are very small, about an inch and a quarter by an inch and a half.
Strange little photos, quite ordinary looking except for their size.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if they were for passports or something, and how come they are so small.

Also, if some kind soul could spruce them up a bit, I would be ever so pleased.

Over to you......

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Is that a wedding ring I see?
« on: Monday 11 February 08 21:45 GMT (UK)  »
Well, I suppose there's no reason why it shouldn't be a wedding ring...
except....

I've always thought that this dress looks a bit early and Gran Harriet looks just a bit young.

She was born in 1866, married in 1907... um, after having 7 kids and living with their father as man and wife from at least the 1891 census...

So to put my mind at rest, about what date would you give this photo, and is that a wedding ring, or a curtain ring I see....

If anyone would be so kind as to tidy the photo up and give it a bit of colour I would be overjoyed, but please... no blushes, she is trying to keep a straight face....

Technical Help / I gotta bitta trouble.....
« on: Saturday 22 September 07 19:18 BST (UK)  »
I don't know if anyone has any thoughts on this...
I'm baffled...(not difficult when it gets technical)

For a couple of months now I have been having trouble staying connected to the internet....broadband.
I get a connection and after a while I get cut off.
I called my server, and they helpfully said, filter problem...so got new ones...no difference. USB cable, new one...no difference. Computer crashed...big time...Got a new computer with Vista, but the cut offs still go on.
The last time it was for 8 hours....
THEN one afternoon my security..F Secure, told me a program was trying to close my internet connection...which was funny, because I wasn't on the internet at the time.
I asked for details and it said this sometimes happens when someone is trying to take over your connection for their own use...
I have never heard of this.
I pressed the button that said Do Not Allow.
I have been all right since, until this afternoon, when, around the same time, up came the notice that someone was trying to close my internet connection. Once again, I was not on the net.
So I pressed Do Not Allow and closed down again.

Has anyone got any ideas what is going on?
Several of us in Oxforshire have been suffering from the same disconnection problem for weeks, and one other has had the same notice I had, but from Norton Security.

Just wondered if anyone is any wiser than I am...haven't got a clue what's happening myself....
Thanks for reading, and I hope you can understand what I mean.
