I've got a name of someone who died in 1898 who  was serving on  the Waterwitch which I believe was part of the Australian Squadron.   Where would I find any records of him joining etc?

Yes it is. There's a huge family and I am in contact with  one family member. But  of one brother's progeny (of which I am one of many  ) there are very many of us left in the UK and over 90 living in Australia.  For another brother there are very many descendants in Canada.   But no-one knows where the pair of them cleared off to leaving their families destitute. Clever money is on  South  Africa.

I can see your problem: In 1901 she is already claiming to be a widow in Great Alne. (She was born in Aston Cantlow.)  She marries Harry Blundelll in alcester Oct-Dec 1894 Vol 6d 1161. If you are interested in finding what happened to Harry  or who his family is you may have to order  the marraige certificate. Harry Blundell I think dies in Alcester 1900 )Oct-Dec . So it's anyone's guess who  the father was.

Makes you think it might well have been a Victorian job pretending to be older after all. I am not aware of any bishop being allowed to marry until after the Reformation

Thank you. When you said bishop my natural reaction was to look at the other shield: they really do look like chess bishops. Which I think is a bit odd given  the fact that the other is the See of London
