Hi Sue,

Any Woodley, Gilbey, Burrows, Welch, Archer, Shepherd, Bangham/Banham, Eames or Collyns?
Certainly the entire Woodley family were brewers, maltsers and victuallers, and they taught their Burrows cousins. The Gilbey name is synonomous with Gilbey's Gin! I also know that some Welch cousins were victuallers and some Archers were maltsters.
Both Woodley and Gilbey may be spelt missing the 'e' before the 'y', and Burrows may be spelt Burroughs.

Hope the index is proving useful!
Many thanks,
Geoff.

Hi Bryant,
I double checked the index and the refs are as stated !?  ???

HO107/1783/429  and 433 and 497  GCG is GT.COGGESHALL

record census fname lname piece folio parish age born birth
59084 Witham JAMES LARRETT GCG 429 GT.COXALL 47 ESS 1804
59085 Witham JANE LARRETT GCG 429 GT.COXALL 50 ESS 1801
59086 Witham JOHN LARRETT GCG 429 GT.COXALL 19 ESS 1832
59088 Witham SARAH LARRETT GCG 429 GT.COXALL 17 ESS 1834

59089 Witham THOMAS LARRETT GCG 497 GT.COGGESHALL 34 ESS 1817

The GT.COXALL part throws me a bit, but there are a LOT (hundreds) of people who come under that!!

Sorry no page numbers or addresses.

Most odd,  :-[
Sorry,
Geoff.

Essex / Re: Stent family Stratford Essex
« on: Wednesday 22 December 04 16:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Sandie,  :D

Maybe the spelling should be different or they moved out to elsewhere? Searched on St*
Nearest others were Stemp?

From 1861 West Ham/Stratford index (RG9):
STENT   JANE   13      1054   50   WHM
and from 1861 East Ham/Barking/Ilford index (RG9):
STENT   WILLIAM   56      1070   39   GIL
STENT   HARRIET   40      1070   39   GIL
STENT   REBECCA   16      1070   39   GIL
GIL is Great Ilford.
Here are James and Jane from West Ham/Stratford index (RG9):
DIGBY   JAMES   43      1054   6   WHM
DIGBY   JANE   33      1054   6   WHM

DIGBY   HANNAH   18      1054   6   WHM
DIGBY   JAMES   16      1054   6   WHM
DIGBY   GEORGE   14      1054   6   WHM
DIGBY   WILLIAM   10      1054   6   WHM
DIGBY   AMELIA   6      1054   6   WHM
DIGBY   JANE   1mnth      1054   6   WHM

Judging by their ages I would have thought James had a prior marriage?

other Digby close by from West Ham/Plaistow index (RG9):
DIGBY   WILLIAM   36      1057   78   WHP
DIGBY   SARAH A   33      1057   78   WHP
DIGBY   SARAH A   8      1057   78   WHP
DIGBY   WILLIAM   6      1057   78   WHP

DIGBY   HANNAH   18      1059   140   WHP

LOTS more Digby about in Essex, if you are interested please post again with details?

Please get FULL census lookups on these refs to check the actual relationships and occupations etc.

Enjoy,
Happy Xmas,  8)
Geoff.

The Lighter Side / Re: Average Age of Family History Enthusiasts
« on: Wednesday 22 December 04 15:34 GMT (UK)  »
Similarly to Ryan I never knew either of my grandfathers and my mother's mother died when I was one. Luckily she had a twin who made up for a fair bit!  :)
I was 35 two weeks ago, so still fairly young by the averages!
I should like to mention that I am now officially a veteran for sporting purposes though. It always used to be 40 for men, but changed this year to be the same as for women (equal rights!).  ;)

Essex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Carter and Perkins families
« on: Wednesday 22 December 04 14:51 GMT (UK)  »
Sorry if I'm confusing you with index only lookups.  :-\
I'll try to note it on the lookup in future. Others have the full censi, so I just try to get you going by giving you the references!
It happens quite often, in villages, that people on the same census page, with the same surname, are either not in the same house and/or not related at all!
APOLOGIES,  :o
Geoff.
PS Glad to see people are helping each other!  :)

Essex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1841/51/61 LARRETT Coggeshall
« on: Tuesday 21 December 04 18:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Fester,
I know the dates don't tally perfectly, BUT I think this is John from 1851? Please remember that there is at least +/-2 error on ages for 1851 and 1861 and a +/-5 error for 1841!!!  :o

Here we go from Witham 1851(HO107/1783):
Surname   Forename   Age   Birth Place   Birth County Code   Folio   Census District Code
LARRETT   JAMES   47   GT.COXALL   ESS   429   GCG
LARRETT   JANE   50   GT.COXALL   ESS   429   GCG
LARRETT   JOHN   19   GT.COXALL   ESS   429   GCG
LARRETT   SARAH   17   GT.COXALL   ESS   429   GCG
Other Larrett from the area:
LARRETT   LUCY   12   GT.COXALL   ESS   433   GCG
LARRETT   THOMAS   34   GT.COGGESHALL   ESS   497   GCG
GCG is Great Coggeshall. Please get a FULL census lookup on that ref for more info.
