Hi,

Detailed report of the accident here

http://www.plimsoll.org/resources/SCCLibraries/WreckReports/16123.asp

Quote
The master of the "Red Jacket" was carried on board the "Bear Creek," and every effort was made to restore animation, but in vain. On his body being examined at Lisbon by a medical man, the cause of death was pronounced to be concussion of the brain.

Hi Steve,

I think that is too late. Ann was listed as aged 60 in 1841 therefore I would expect a birth between 1776 and 1781.....but anything is possible.

Pity we can't find her in 1851.

Cheers Kris

Hi Steve,

Yes I found her also and wondered, but haven't been able to confirm it. I liked the mother Agnes, since James and Ann named a daughter Agnes. . Alas I have not been able to find a marriage to fit.

There was this Mary married in St Austell the year after Ann. I wondered if they may have been sisters.

This Mary STODDEN married Thomas MARSHALL in 1804 in St Austell is still living in St Austell in 1851. She is 73 pob St Stephens. Given the proximity to St Austell I expected St Stevens in Brannel

All I have found is a a Mary STODDEN was baptised 12 Apr 1778 St Stephen by Saltash parents William and Mary.

and a possible marriage for the parents.

William STODDEN a lab in the garden  = Mary POOLEY spinster both otp by banns 6 May 1776 Stoke Damerel. - both signed witnesses Mary POOLEY and Charles POOLEY

but alas none of it has helped. I have not found a sister Ann anyway. Perhaps they were not sisters at all. Just apart from these two marriages St Austell does not appear to be a STODDEN parish. I have been playing about with this for a few days but don't seem to be getting anywhere with it. Just thought I may as well pass on where I was with it..

Cheers Kris  :)

Here is the image Steve. To my eye the vicar wrote Sodden and Ann signed Stodden. You can see where the vicar wrote it it is an S as he writes S's. Compare it to his H's as in his name and its nothing like it.

James Couch

There is also a Mary the following year from memory.

Then we have Agnes naming her son William Stodden KING. I am conviced Ann's name is Stodden.

Cheers Kris  :)

Hi Steve,

Those St Kew baptisms are not the same family. I thought it was your couple to start with but it is not. She is Ann Webber they married in 1803 also but in St Kew, so please discount those Kew baptisms. (John 1804, James 1806, Thomas Webber 1808, Ann 1811, Grace 1814, they are not your couple.

Hi Kylie,

Yes would certainly wonder if these three girls were sisters.

I wonder if Elizabeth may have been Elizabeth LAWER was baptised 3 Sep 1775 Newlyn East parents Simon and Mary. (since the marriage was in Newlyn)

Banns read between Simon LAWER of Lamoran and Mary MORECOMBE otp 6, 13 and 27 Nov 1774 Crantock

Simon LAWER of Lamoran = Mary MORECOMBE otp Spinster by Banns 2 May 1775 Crantock. Both signed with their marks. witnesses Wm King and Mary Lawer

Cheers Kris  :)

OK the baptism was in Gorran 26 Jun 1814. I also note Elizabeth 11 Nov 1810

John was listed as of St Columb Minor at time of marriage. Found this possible sibling in St Columb Minor

Mary 18 Sep 1804

Cheers Kris  :)

Hi Kylie,

You mention Ann born 1814 in St Enoder, Gorrans. Can you please explain? The only Ann I am spotting in St Enoder in 1814 is the daughter of William and Elizabeth. Also at time of marriage Elizabeth is listed as Elizabeth LAWER

John SOLOMON of the parish of St Columb Minor Bachelor and Elizabeth LAWER OTP Spinster 6 Aug 1803 both signed with their marks witnesses William Glanvill and John Williams

Cheers Kris  :)
