??? Curious. AVERY tends to catch my eye. Because, one of my lads ~ inexplicably born in London ~ married an Avery, from Sussex.

They married in Portsmouth ~ what should be my boys natural home town.

Never have fathomed how all that's supposed to link up. Paper work can't be denied, so, there it is.

S'pose, thinking about it though, there would have been Avery's all over the place.

the amount of totally unsourced / acclaimed accounts within trees on Ancestry are ridiculous

It is NOT now for the REAL researcher.

Probably about right.

But, we have this figured. Let them play. Who takes notice of that stuff?  8)

Jto; " Maughan " could prove a devil to search on.  My mates name is Moran. Here (Leitrim) pronounced 'Morn'. Elsewhere, likely Moor Ann.

Likewise, Mayne could be Marn, here. Main, fifty miles north.

I wouldn't even hazard a guess exactly how your one's pronounced. Here. There. Or anywhere else. But, I'd be wide open to phonetic transcriptions.

McDonagh? No mistaking that one!  ;D

Chumbley; If ye Dad saw service in WW2, may I humbly suggest that ye Really Should read this book?

Hang it! It's really Required Reading for any of us whose parents 'picked up a rifle' 8)

Demobbed.

It'll open ye eyes to aspects of ye Dads possible experiences that would, probably, have never crossed ye mind.

Interesting .....

Few weeks back, I happened to spot where someone had grafted my own peeps onto the top of his own, completely unrelated, ones. Honest mistake. Similar names. But, a travesty.

I PM's him proof, via the pit. Was perfectly friendly and suggested we need look into it all.

Nothing.

Maybe this is why  ???

Incidentally, whilst we're on the subject? I now get this:

Every time. Simply refresh the page and I'm good to go.

So many glitches .....  ::)

Amandski; The Book Of Bob (Clicky) cites Goodwin as a name recorded as given my Gypsys, in the Midlands.

Sadly, in this rare instance, that's All he has  :-\

It would add up that they'd blame Gypsys, regardless. Some things never change.
