Ireland / Place name - Louthurston? in County Tyrone- Completed
« on: Monday 27 November 06 08:55 GMT (UK)  »
 Hi there,

I have just viewed passenger information for a Margaret Jameson. I can read all except for one word.

It is something like: Louthurston, Louthystown, Louthingstown. It may not be Lou either. Any suggestions?

Am 99% sure it's Tyrone.

This was 1854.

Kindest regards,

Jamjar

Ireland / Johannah Murphy/Arthur O'Leary/Leary
« on: Saturday 25 November 06 04:26 GMT (UK)  »
Howdy do,

I know as I type that this is a lost cause, but one lives in hope.

I have the above mentioned in London with youngens.

Arthur is on the 1851 census, in St George East, listed as 'cousin' and a widower.

In '61 he has a wife, my Johannah, a 15 year old and 3 littles. I also know their was a daughter over the age of 15, but not on the census.

Now, here's my dilemma: I cannot find their marriage.

I have an intuitive feeling that they married in Ireland. Could be wrong, of course. My theory is that Arthur went to London to get a job and then went back to collect his older children. Could Johannah have been looking after them?

Anyhow, if they were married it would be between '51, after the census, and 1853 when the first daughter was born.

Now you know what I am going to ask, don't you? How to find if they were married in Ireland?

Regards,

Janice

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Hannah JENKINS - Nee WILLIAMS - Death 1841-1851?
« on: Tuesday 21 November 06 06:20 GMT (UK)  »
Greetings,

Looking for a death of Hannah Jenkins- nee Williams. Her husband was William Jenkins.

She is last seen on the '41 census at a residence called Ty-yn-y-wain.

The other details are

Ystradgunlais
Civil Parish - Llanguich  Hundred - Llangafelach

William      35 Collier
Hannah     40
Jenkin       15 Collier
Rees         13
Mary         11
Catherine   7
David         4

It says she is 40, but I think she may have been younger. She is also listed as Hannah Williams, but it is actually an error. She was married to William Jenkins. This I know for sure.

Her family came to Australia, but I believe she had died prior to their departure. I can't find her death details, here in Oz.

William re-married in 1852, here in Australia.

Any information would be gratefully received.

Regards,

Jamjar

Cumberland / Christina Pitt - nee Cross 1863 - Dalston
« on: Sunday 19 November 06 03:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there, am in need of help, please.

I am looking for any information regarding Christina/Christian/Christiana Cross/Pitt. I don't have a name for MR Pitt.

She is in Scotland on the '41 Scottish Census. Father: Roderick Cross a miller.

She is not on the '51 census. Checked on ScotlandsPeople.

She has a daughter Annie in 1863 and living at 219 Queens Rd Dalston.

In July '64 she married Walter Mowbray in Hackney.

The marriage cert says she is a widow.

A daughters birth cert says she is Christiana Mowbray, late Pitt, formally Cross.

Kindest regards, Jamjar

Ross & Cromarty / Margaret Grant & Kenneth Cameron
« on: Sunday 12 November 06 08:56 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for information on Margaret.

She was married to Finlay Cameron and lived in  Killearnan Parish at Drynie Park

She was born abt. 1778, at Contin.

I have her on the '51 census, but she is deceased by '61.

I couldn't find record of this on ScotsPeople, so she must have died pre '55

As her eldest daughter was Ann, I suspect it may be the name of Margaret's mother.

Jamjar

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Thomas H Atkinson/Catherine O'leary
« on: Wednesday 01 November 06 04:32 GMT (UK)  »
Greetings,

I am looking for information on Thomas H J (Horace, I'm sure). The 1871 census has him born Kent Gravesend Kent and 30 years.

I have him on the 1871 census with son Thomas Horace, born Middlesex 1 yr- this is my rellie.
He had an ex-housekeeper, Kate Leary, living there - the boy's mother.

They were at 360 Havering St Stepney

In 1881 son's Thomas Horace and Arthur are at their grandmother's  - Johannah O'Leary - home at 489 Commercial Rd London.

Where were Thomas H and Kate?

I was only able to find one Thomas H in London on the '81 census fitting his age. He was a lodger.

I would very much like the details of Thomas the firsts parents.

Also, for Johannah, born in Ireland. She had a daughter Ann with her on the two census' mentioned. One says Ann was born in Wapping, Middlesex and the other just says St George E. Middlesex.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
