« on: Saturday 06 March 10 10:22 GMT (UK)  »
John Harding and wife Barbara are on the non conformist baptism of their grandson in 1833 in Devon

1841 census says the were both born in Gloucestershire abt 1781, both are dead before 1851

All 3 of their children are born in Bitton Gloucestershire, the first being in 1804.

I have tried the usual places , but cannot find a marriage.

Can anyone help please ?

United States of America / Lawrence and Sophia Green
« on: Tuesday 07 April 09 08:11 BST (UK)  »
I`m trying to figure out when they went to America

Lawrence Green born abt 1830 in Ireland and wife Sophia born abt 1827 in Derby England, married in Derby Sept quarter 1852, they must have left for America shortly after because their first 2 children were born there

William Walter Green born 1853 New York

Rowland Charles Green born 1855 Williamsburg

They had 5 more children all born in Derby England, the first being 1857

Could someone look up the passenger lists for their arrival in America and departure back to England, if possible please

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / John Spencer baptism
« on: Sunday 22 March 09 08:56 GMT (UK)  »
I am hopeing someone will be able to help with the baptism of John Spencer born abt 1803 in Crich.

Marries his first wife in 1828 in Matlock and remarries in Chesterfield in 1832

1841 census says he is 25, but looking at the hard to read image i`m sure its 35, living in Temple Normanton

1951 census says age 48 still living in Temple Normanton, this is where it says he was born in Crich

Can anyone find his baptism and siblings please

Thank you for any help

Hi

I have the marriage cert of George Robotham and Frances Selina Stroud, Married in Derby 1891.

George was born abt 1870 in Staffordshire, (no birth found) depending on which census you look at Alton or Hollington

His father was Enock/Enoch Robotham born abt 1841, again depending on the census Alton, Hollington or Rocester

I believe Alice on this 1881 census is his second wife, married 1876 in Derby

1881
Source Citation: Class: RG11; Piece: 3401; Folio: 82; Page: 7; Line:  ; GSU roll: 1341813.

Enock Ruebottom  40  Stone mason  b. Hollington Staffs
Alice  30     wife     b. sudbury Derbys
Enoch  16     son      b. Hollington
George 10     son    b. Hollington
William Ernest 8 months son  b. Derby

1871 sees Enoch  (1841) living with the Clarke family in Newborough, no wife or children
Source Citation: Class: RG10; Piece: 2894; Folio: 59; Page: 2; GSU roll: 836396.

Could anyone find the children in 1871 or Enoch before then, so we could find the first marriage of Enoch  and the mother of young Enoch and George please

US Lookup Requests / Philadelphia, Pennsylvania birth look up please
« on: Tuesday 02 September 08 13:35 BST (UK)  »
I have been told by a contact that Matilda Camilla Fletcher was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 31 March 1901 not long before her parents Andrew and Matilda Fletcher came back to England.

Could any one give me an idea if this is a possibility please, my contact is going on a death date.

The Common Room / Where were they born?
« on: Sunday 13 April 08 12:50 BST (UK)  »

I`m trying to work out when my Fletchers came back to England.

On the 1900 census for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania i have,

Andrew Fletcher born 1870 Derby
Matilda Fletcher born 1871 Derby
Dorothy Fletcher born 1894 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The next child i have a date of birth for this couple is,

Martha Evelyn Fletcher born Dec 1904 Derby

But (and theres always a but) theres 3 more children,

Francis
Paticia
Matilda

So where and when were they born, 10 years between the dates that i have for the 2 children seems a long time and have not been able to find the births in Derby.

Could some kind soul please look between 1900 and 1904 and see if they possibly crop up in the births for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

I have contact with the decendants of both Dorothy and Martha and neither of them have any idea either.

Thank you for any help

Derbyshire / Kerrys from Smalley
« on: Sunday 27 January 08 04:40 GMT (UK)  »
I have come across a mini tree compiled by the Rev Charles Kerry c1833, which contains some of my Kerry family from Smalley Derbyshire, at the top of this tree it says,

There is a tradition in the family that the first of the Kerrys of Smalley was an "Officer from Wales"

Would anyone have any idea what this refers to please?

I have seen the Smalley site.

World War One / WW1 query
« on: Saturday 10 November 07 09:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I have just received my great uncles medal card, which says he enlisted in 1915, a Sapper in the Royal Engineers aged 50

We know he was a Sapper in the Royal Engineers in 1901, have not found what happened to him between 1901 and 1936, but his children were put in a orphanage in the early 1900s, he remarried as a widower in 1936

My question is, would he have to enlist for war service if he was still in the regular army?.

Thank you for any help.
