Northumberland / Frater/Weddle Family
« on: Friday 22 March 24 00:05 GMT (UK)  »
About to pull my hair out, I have looked at hundreds of tree's on ancestry and for the life of me I can not find one tree or one person that has any proof of birth or the parents of Thomas Frater supposedly born about 1769  and his marriage is suppose to be 1796 in FORD to Isabella Weddle still again no proof of marriage. Near every tree says that a David Frater and Dorothy Alison are the parents of Thomas. My gut tells me they are not but like every one else I have no proof. Ancestry it looks like one person added them as parents and everyone else just followed suit :( I have 11 children born to Thomas and Isabella all around the Kirknewton area. Both Thomas and Isabella are buried Bamburgh and Dorothy Alison is also buried there in 1804 find a grave lists her as 75 to 76 age, a had written copy of her burial say she was aged 86  which would of made her born abt 1718which would of made her abt 51 years of age when she supposedly gave birth to Thomas in abt 1769.  Can anyone shed any light on the birth and parents of Thomas. Thank you all.

Northumberland / Baptism for Thomas Frater
« on: Wednesday 17 June 20 07:07 BST (UK)  »
Has anyone ever been able to find a baptism for Thomas Frater born abt 1769. Possible parents David Frater and Dorothy Allison. He married Isabella Weddle born abt 1771, Abt 1796 possibly Ford, Northumberland.
I have looked on ancestry and near every tree has Thomas as son of David and Dorothy and born 1769, but as yet I have not seen a baptism or marriage record for him or anything that says he is the son of David and Dorothy.

I know both Thomas and Isabella died Bamburgh, and all their children I have  but would like something solid on his birth.

Thanking you all in Advance

Northumberland / Orphanage is 1913 Newcastle
« on: Tuesday 18 February 20 03:35 GMT (UK)  »
Would anyone know where I would be able to start searching for orphanage records for 1913.

I have Eleanor Frater nee Cowe in the 1911 census  she is with her  7 children (Robina, James, Christina, Dorothy, John, Frederick and Florence) ages ranging from 19 down to 6.  Rumor thats been passed down from Frederick's family says he was put in an orphanage when he was about 8 year old, which would coincide with the death of his mother in 1913. Their father was Archibald Frater died in 1907. Have also been unable to find a death for Frederick Archibald Frater. (Merchant Seaman) could be anywhere.

Be grateful of any help
Thanking You

Northumberland / Helen Frater born abt 1784
« on: Wednesday 30 May 18 13:01 BST (UK)  »
On the 1841 (Scot) census says Helen born England
On the 1851 (Scot) census says Helen born Newton, Northumberland
Helen (Hellen) died 6 Nov 1851 aged 67 at Yetholm, Scotland.... so would of been born abt 1784
Married a Archibald Stenhouse  ??

Is there any way of finding out her birth? And possibly her marriage date? Perhaps parents?
I have had no luck with finding any of the above...

Thanking you all in Advance

Northumberland / Frater/Harvey Marriage
« on: Wednesday 11 April 18 22:28 BST (UK)  »

Looking for the marriage of John Frater and Isobel Harvey/Harvie

Also looking for the birth of John Frater, its like a needle in a haystack. I think born abt 1770/1780 area he was certainly deceased by 1851 when his youngest son listed him as deceased on shipping papers, he was not on the 1841 census with Isabel in Yetholm, Scotland so I am guessing that he died between the birth of youngest son in 1828 and 1841.
Possible birth for John Frater.
(I have a feeling that John Frater will end up being a brother to Thomas Frater 1769-1839  Andrew Frater 1775-1845 and David Frater 1762 Parents being David Frater and Dorothy Allison that married in 1756 Ilderton, Northumberland, England.) Not  that feelings are any good for adding to family history. (Only been able to find 3 children for David and Dorothy I am sure there will be more)

I have the  following children for John and Isobel. (Thanks to Betty McKenzie a few years back)
John Frater 11 Oct 1812 Shotten, Northumberland, England
Jane Frater 17 Mar 1814 Shilbottle, Northumberland, England
Thomas Frater 6 May 1816 Shildean, Kirknewton, Northumberland, England
George Frater 3 Jul 1818 Shildean, Kirk-Newton, Northumberland, England
Isabel Frater 8 Jun 1821 Kilham, Kirk-Newton, Northumberland, England
James Frater 11 Aug 1824 Shildean, Kirk-Newton, Northumberland, England
Alice Frater 29 Jun 1826 Kilham, Kirk-Newton, Northumberland, England
Alexander Frater 15 Dec 1828 Crookham, Northumberland, England

Thanking you in advance for any new ideas :)

Australia / James Goodwillie 1878 - ?
« on: Wednesday 12 April 17 07:23 BST (UK)  »
Piecing together information from the following news articles found:
A boy named James Goodwillie, about 10 years of age, appeared in answer to a charge of stealing 1s from a little girl named Ellen Hinds. The father of the boy appeared and said that he had no control over his son, and would like to have him sent to the Vernon. He was earning £3 a week, but could not afford to pay anything towards the child's support, owing to sickness in the family. The boy's mother was dead, but he had a stepmother. Article from The Sydney Herald - 19 Sept 1889 (Trove Digitised Newspapers website)
Mr C Delohery, DSM , presided at the Central Police Court yesterday James Goodwillie, 12, was ordered to be sent on board the Vernon, for being found wandering about in company with reputed thieves. Article from The Sydney Herald - 26 Oct 1889 (Trove Digitised Newspapers website)
The above information agrees with the entry book to "The Vernon" from this site - this was an Industrial School ship moored in Sydney Harbour.
From reading the pages of his entry it also shows that his elder sister Helen referred to as Ellen is in the Industrial School for girls at Parramatta.
Interestingly it is strange that James' natural Mother is said to be dead, but this is known not to be the truth, as Catherine is now living with John McKillop-Davies (whether they have married is unsure as no Marriage entry has been found). Also the entry shows the name of James' Stepmother as Elizabeth (again whether David & Elizabeth were married is uncertain as no Marriage entry found for them either).
James married Mary Theresa Gould 29 May 1906 divorced 3 Dec 1913 had 1 child Florence Ammett Goodwillie....  James has just seemed to disappeared after the divorce from Mary... I do have a death date of 6 May 1931 in Norfolk but don't know if this is correct or not.  Cant find him anywhere any help would be great TY Chris
