Somerset / Re: ALWAY and GREENLAND early 1800's

Hi Charlotte

Using www.freereg.org.uk  I can't find any other children for Richard and Mary, in fact none in or near Bath at all.
That's not to say there were none, perhaps the Registers are not transcribed for this source yet.

There is an Edwin GREENLAND Baptised at St John. Keynshasm 18 March 1807
Parents James and Susannah.

I know there were Greenlands living at Newton St Loe and Keynsham is not that far, I have walked it in the past.

There is also a Baptism for an Eleanor ALWAY baptised at Bath Abbey 20 Oct 1817
Parents Richard and Mary
Father a Butcher living at Orange Court

If this is of any help

Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey, Sark / Re: Questions re surname Goosney
« on: Wednesday 06 April 11 07:58 BST (UK)  »
It's possible that Gosney arrived in Guernsey from Crewkerne Somerset.
It is probably also associated with the Penney(Pinney) Family also of Crewkerne.

I have a William Gosney Pinney in my Tree, a Son of William Pinney and Sarah Gosney.

In Guernsey they appear to have been involved in the Quarrying Industry and many lived in the Paris Street, Glategney Parade area of St Johns Parish.

I hope this is of some use

Somerset / Re: Frome Road House (workhouse) Bath

Bath Union Workhouse, which is at Odd Down, re emerged as St Martins Hospital.

I do have images of Bath Union Workhouse Baptisms from 1846 to 1963.

Yes after the Workhouse changed to St Martins Baptisms were performed in the Chapel until '63 sometimes Drs or Nurses are recorded as celebrants. Some entries are quite surprising.

If you can give me your Grandmothers name I will see if there is a Baptism to of a child to her name

Somerset / Re: pub Villa Place Bathwick 1838

Hi
Well the Barley Mow was and probably still is in Bathwick Street.
According to the 1852 Bath Directory at number 32 Harriet Quigley is the Innkeeper.

Bathwick Villas is described as "bottom of Henrietta Street" and that is where the Barley Mow is located, so my guess is Barley Mow.
I was last in there in 1966

There was Folly House owned by the Hulberts but it appears this never operated as an Inn until about 1850.

Somerset / Re: Robert PINNEY - Birth

Hi
You might want to consider the Robert Pinney 'Registered' at Bedminster in Sep quater of1895 vol. 5c page 622.

I've no explaination why someone from Crewkerne would be nr Bristol but stranger things have happened . Age is about right and Registration could have been conveniently 'overlooked' for a couple of years.

Hi
St Marys was a Catholic Parish. St Mary of the Stall.
I can see a baptism for a Charlotte VOWLES 3 Jun 1816 Father Benjamin, Mother Izatt, of common House a Farmer.
I can recall some Vowles recorded at St Swithins from the transcribing I have done but details are not at hand.

Hi Dave

Parish records for Bath are held at Bath Archives

http://www.batharchives.co.uk/

and at Somerset Records Office.

The excellent site

www.bathbmd.org.uk

clearly shows the John Jeffereys/ Henrietta Eacott marriage in 1844 at St Marys, Bathwick with a reference of C14/1/364.
