Somerset Lookup Requests / Acres Family Look Up Please
« on: Sunday 07 January 07 02:34 GMT (UK)  »
Could someone please look up a christening or birth date for my GGGGGreat Grandfather Thomas Acres born somewhere around 1758.  His parents were married 28th SEP 1762 Parish Cheddon Fitzpaine, Somerset.  His parents were Thomas Acres and Mary Husson so I am also after birth or christening dates for them plus their parents names if possible.  The family were apparently catholics.  Acres is also spelt Akers, Akres and Acers.

Thanks you,
Amanda from Australia

Devon Completed Lookup Requests / Acres Family Look Up Please

Could someone please look up a birth/christening for me for my GGGGGreat Grandfather Thomas Acres.  The surname is also spelt Aker and Akres.  He was born about 1758 in either Cornwall or Devon (sorry I don't know a more specific location), the son of Thomas Acres and Mary Husson and was later convicted and transported to Australia on the First Fleet.  I would also be extremely appreciative for a marriage date for Thomas Acres Snr and Mary Husson and birth/christening records for them as well.

Thank you,
Amanda from Australia.

Australia / Burial Certificates and Grave Locations
« on: Monday 11 December 06 03:11 GMT (UK)  »
As many of you have probably found the older Burial Certificates don't have as much information on them as the later death certificates.

If someone was living in Lower Minto near Campbelltown and then died in 1830, where would be the most likely place be that they would be buried if the ceremony was performed by St.Marys Roman Catholic?

Does this mean that the body would have actually been transported in to Sydney to the Cathedral for the funeral (it would have been a very long way in those days), or does this mean that a priest belonging to St.Marys went out to Lower Minto or Campbelltown to perform the funeral?

Australia / James Ruse's son-in-law Patrick Harrigan (Haddegaddy etc)
« on: Friday 08 December 06 03:06 GMT (UK)  »
I am searching for an accurate death date and grave location for my GGGG Grandfather Patrick Harrigan who was an Irish convict and came to Australia on board the Duke of Portland arriving in 1807.  He appears to disappear from the records around 1830.  Patrick had many variations of his surname including Haddegaddy, Haddigaddy, Haddigan, Hargedon, Hadegan, Hadagan, Hadigan, Hartigan, Hanrigan, Handrigan, Hoddrigoddy, Carrigan etc

My GGGG Grandmother Susannah (nee Ruse) gave birth to a daughter Bridget to Richard Ryan in 1831, which either suggests that Patrick had left or died.

Based on his many aliases I have done a NSW BDM search on all men named Patrick, Pat and Paddy who died between 1828 and 1880.

I have a death certificate for a Patrick Harrigan who was buried on 24 May 1831 in Newcastle (a long way from my Patrick's home in Lower Minto, new Campbelltowm) however he was only 30 (too young) and was a convict (my Patrick was pardoned in 1815 for his work on the road over the Blue Mountains).  It also says that the funeral was performed by the Church of England (my Patrick was Catholic)

I also have a death certificate for a Patrick Hoolahan who was buried on 23 July 1830, ceremony performed by Charles Pickivers of St.Marys Roman Catholic - this sounds promising but this is unfortunately the only information on the certificate and is therefore inconclusive.

I have even phoned the Catholic & Anglican (I have another catholic ancestor buried in the Anglican cemetery because the catholic one wasn't there when he died) churches in Campbelltown, although they can't confirm he's not buried there, they don't have him on there records.

Are there any "cousins" out there who can give me any information?  Or can anyone else give me any suggestions on what to do next?

Thanks,
Amanda

I have ancestors who immigrated from Ireland to Cheshire/Lancashire in the 1830s, are there any records that I can trace that will tell me where from Ireland they came from?

Does anyone know if there is some way that I can access Catholic Baptisms in the Warrington area and the Stockport area for the 1830's (Pre-BDM)?
