I am searching for an accurate death date and grave location for my GGGG Grandfather Patrick Harrigan who was an Irish convict and came to Australia on board the Duke of Portland arriving in 1807. He appears to disappear from the records around 1830. Patrick had many variations of his surname including Haddegaddy, Haddigaddy, Haddigan, Hargedon, Hadegan, Hadagan, Hadigan, Hartigan, Hanrigan, Handrigan, Hoddrigoddy, Carrigan etc
My GGGG Grandmother Susannah (nee Ruse) gave birth to a daughter Bridget to Richard Ryan in 1831, which either suggests that Patrick had left or died.
Based on his many aliases I have done a NSW BDM search on all men named Patrick, Pat and Paddy who died between 1828 and 1880.
I have a death certificate for a Patrick Harrigan who was buried on 24 May 1831 in Newcastle (a long way from my Patrick's home in Lower Minto, new Campbelltowm) however he was only 30 (too young) and was a convict (my Patrick was pardoned in 1815 for his work on the road over the Blue Mountains). It also says that the funeral was performed by the Church of England (my Patrick was Catholic)
I also have a death certificate for a Patrick Hoolahan who was buried on 23 July 1830, ceremony performed by Charles Pickivers of St.Marys Roman Catholic - this sounds promising but this is unfortunately the only information on the certificate and is therefore inconclusive.
I have even phoned the Catholic & Anglican (I have another catholic ancestor buried in the Anglican cemetery because the catholic one wasn't there when he died) churches in Campbelltown, although they can't confirm he's not buried there, they don't have him on there records.
Are there any "cousins" out there who can give me any information? Or can anyone else give me any suggestions on what to do next?
Thanks,
Amanda
