Well they're definately not visible under my usual searches on the census.

I noticed his Brother Edward R Hartley was a butcher in the 1891 census but yet his wife is visible in the 1901 census stating married so where is her Hubby.  So if George and Clara went earlier as your thinking then maybe Edward went with them - you know to help set them up travelling and such?


Do you know when Clara came in to the UK prior to marrying George?

Found on the 1881 UK census  living at 69 Park Street Bradford

Harry W Finlayson bn circa 1835  Occ Parcel Agent bn Arundle Sussex



In the 1871 he was at the same address and his occupation was shown as  "Globe Parcel Express Agent"

David bn circa 1834 Bride, Isle of Man Occ shown as a Draper's Shopman and he too is living in Peterhead Aberdeenshire


The address is shown as 10 Maiden Street
