I believe from doing searches in the 1861 upto and including the 1911 for the address and the surrounding area the  property you are after is probably now on Google under the name of Smithy Hill, Beckside, Carleton there is even a street view.

I use FindMyPast if you use A*******Y maye they've been mistranscribed.

I just searched for Nellie the youngest bn Yorkshire and chanced that they were still in Yorkshire with other household member named Harry -  I just got lucky.

Anyway here's the ref

I wonder whether this is the place

"Forest Gate Hospital Industrial School for poor children here in 1854.
The school remained until 1906, and was the scene of a tragedy in 1890 when a fire caused the deaths of 26 children. In 1908 it became the branch workhouse of Poplar Union, and in 1911 it was purchased by West Ham Union which reopened it as a workhouse infirmary in 1913. It remained as a hospital and was expanded in 1931 and 1950 although the main Victorian building remained."

I've just been looking at the inbetween census of Cyril's birth to see if I could spot a likely suspect for Wm Smith the confectioner but can't find one to stand out.


Do let us know what the marriage cert reveals - please.
