Thank You all,

For your advice on this, unfortunately, been having problems with my computer, and not been able to get on with it!

Been having problems with the brain too. Yes Treespirit. It was Louis and Betsy Behrenstein/ Bernstein I was chasing, not Isaac. Dwelling in Leeds,1891/1901/ 1911.

I believe Betsy's maiden name to be either Copalanski, which was the name given by her 16 year old sister, in 1891 or Grosman.

I have just been able to confirm, that Louis had a brother, Nathan born c 1870, also born Mariampol, Russia, now Lithuania. I believe their father to have been Zvi Hirsch, this is on Nathan's headstone , in Hebrew,  at New Farnley Jewish Cemetery Leeds,1965 .

Louis died 31/05/1938,and is probably buried at Salford, where is eldest daughter lived. In 1939,living  at 187, Bury Road, Manchester. I can find no access to online burial records

Again, Any help welcomed

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Where do I look for naturalization papers ?

Hi Guys...

I have a family , Isaac and Betsy Berinstein/Bernstein (and variations thereof ! ) Their first child was born in England 1886, I cannot find a marriage for them here.

They were both born c1863, and Betsy states Kishinev, Russia as place of birth

Where do I look for further information please. Natralization would put flesh on the bones to start.

Thank You

Jebber,

How kind of you. What a wonderful photograph.

My Albert Hardy died in 1878, so he could possibly be on this. Must get out the magnifier, and check out the ears !

I am very grateful, thank you

Oliver...

My goodness me !
I do not know what to say. Only yesterday, I looked yet again at William Podmore...he is one of my brick walls, but I keep returning to him, as new information keeps coming available....

I have all information about his children, grandchildren etc, but where he came from nothing.

I have his rather wonderful will, dated 1784. A superb document...would you like a copy ?

How are you connected. Do you have a online tree I could take a peak at ? Can I help you ?

I am absolutely thrilled that you have contacted me. I cannot wait to start investigating this information.

Thank you, so much

Jeannie

Jebber.

That is so kind of you. I am very grateful.

We are staying at Poole, for about four days, hoping to take in Christchurch, the Hardy scene, and part of Southampton , where the family eventually settled. I think I am being a bit ambitious re time.....but hey

Hi guys.

I have just arranged a holiday in Dorset, in order to do some family research.
My 3xgreat grandfather, Albert Hardy, was born 1816 at Puddletown. He was a first cousin of Thomas Hardy, having the same grandparents.

He was a Watch and Clockmaker , and his business was based at Rotten Row, Purewell, Christchurch. Number 5, I think.

Does this building still exist ? I am trying to organise a itinerary for us. As I get older, walking about aimlessly, is out of the question. I am longing to get photographs of places my rellies lived.

Many thanks
Jeannie

Technical Help / How can I download data large enough to read ?
« on: Tuesday 10 April 18 01:06 BST (UK)  »
Hello Rootschatters

I need to download some workhouse records from FindMyPast. I need the actual images, not just the transcriptions.

I have done this several, nay, many times, but it is very difficult to read.
How can I enlarge the pages required to normal size please?

My computer is a Lenovo G50, and my printer a HP Envy 5530.

Failing this, do you think that if I contacted the Library who hold The Workhouse Archives ( Manchester) reproduce them for me.

It is quite important that I have the information in these images, in a readable form.

In easy words please, I am a thicky, technically

Thank you both, so very much.

That is exactly what I was looking for, and the information in the article has really helped confirm a few things.

I did this research, quite a few years ago, but as we all know, we never finish it really, something else always presents itself.

Thankyou also for the link to ebay. I think I am going to buy the poster, it will be great to have one in the family. The only photo we have is very poor.

I am thrilled to bits !

Thanks again
