Hi Gadget,

As far as I can remember I obtained this info a few years ago on Genuki, but I may have obtained it from British History Online or similar. Sorry!

I always had problems locating my Gregory's & for quite a time I could not reconcile two families with the same parents and children and ages living in either Montgomeryshire or Shropshire only one or two miles apart.  It's taken me a few years to confirm that they were one and the same family.

Will look through my files to see if I kept an actual record of where I obtained this info. It was definitely online however.

Hi Annie,

I have the same problem as yourself, it can be very confusing, however I hope this helps with some of the villages.

In 1861:

Alberbury was in Montgomeryshire
Coedway in Shropshire
Llandrinio in Shropshire
Llandysilio in Montgomeryshire

Hi, thanks for the contact.

Any light you can throw on the Bowen/Jones lineage would be appreciated.  I guess you've picked this thread up from the Annie Louisa Scriven link.

Look forward to hearing from you.

According to DNA, I have the Romany gene from central asia, through my maternal line, which I can trace back to Eleanor Jones married 04 May 1746 Stottesdon to Francis Bowen.

OK, I'm a gorjer (spelling?), but not trying to prove anything at this stage, so I don't want to upset you true Romany's by claiming to be of gypsy descent, however, if I could prove it I would be extremely happy.

My direct maternal line reads (all Shropshire), from my grandmother:

Annie Louisa Scriven, b 1873 Alveley
Ann Bennett, b . abt 1851 Alveley
Sarah Broom(e), b  1826 Alveley
Jane Blakeway, 1792 Hopton Wafers
Jane Bowen b 1757 Stottesdon, bap Farlow Chapel
Eleanor Jones who married 04 May 1746 Stottesdon, Shropshire to Francis Bowen.

I really want/need to track Eleanor's mother, as this is another link in the gene female tree.

Any ideas gratefully received, from one who is vertically challenged & of olive (well I think so!) skin. As an outsider, maybe I have misconceptions!
