Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Whatmough, Watmough - marriage to a Porter
« on: Monday 04 June 07 06:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
My grandmother, born 1896 was Naomi Watmough Wood, her parents being Shadrack Wood and Annie Eliza King. I believed Annie Eliza Kings parents to be George King and Annie Porter, born in Nottingham around 1840 - info from the various census have differed.
I have yet to find Annie Porter on either the 1841 or the 1851 census but maybe the 1861 with a birth place as Aslocton and not Nottingham. I have Annie Eliza's birth cert(1866) which says mum was Annie King formerly Porter.
I have Anne Porters marriage cert (1864) which states her father was James Porter deceased - here her age is given as 27 years
That was until yesterday....
I received a death notice saying Annie "Porter" was Annie Whatmough b Nottingham.
So ....
I was wondering if Annie Porters mothers maiden name was Whatmough/Watmough and if she was married to a Porter.
or ....
Annie Porter was in fact Annie/Anne Whatmough b between 1837 and 1849( according to the 1901 census!!!!) Her ages in the census info I have range as follows:
1864 marriage aged 27
1871  28 b Nottingham
1881  39 b Nottingham
1891  47 b Nottingham
1901  52 b Nottingham

I would appreciate any help I can get at present as I would love to Know where the Watmough name originated. At present i do not have  death dates for either George King or Annie King ( Porter)
Many thanks

Canada / Wakeman family Canada 1911 census perhaps?
« on: Saturday 25 February 06 17:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,
I am looking for any information on this family in Canada.
Millicient May GUEST b 30 May 1882, Wolverhampton UK, married Alfred Wakeman in Wolverhampton in 1907.
Their daughter Eleanor May WAKEMAN was  born in 1907 in Wolverhampton.
At some point they emigrated to Canada, I am not sure where.

Millicient May died in Vancouver in 1966 - I have her death cert - stating she had lived in the province for 35 years and Canada for 56 years.

Eleanor may have married Bill Walker a jeweller in Vancouver.

That is as much as I know. I have no idea if there were any other children or any further descendents of Eleanor and Bill.
I do not know when Alfred died.
Is one able to get copies of wills in Canada at all?

Many thanks
Ruth

Australia Lookups completed / WILKS family geelong and Ballarat ( 1855-1860's)
« on: Friday 11 November 05 19:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,
I have traced some of my Wilks family to Geelong travelling on the Omega in 1855. They were from Essex and traded as blacksmiths and wheelwrights. I would appreciate any help to point me in the right direction to find out more about them. I believe them to have owned the Fyansford Carriage Works. I am hoping that in a round about way I might find James and wife Caroline and daughter Caroline Betsey with them as I have not found them on any shipping lists yet.
Thanking you in advance

Australia / A few passenger lists from South Africa to Australia
« on: Friday 02 September 05 19:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
There were a number of immigrants to South Africa who then went on to Australia leaving families behind here. Some returned, some did not. Some folk also came from Australia to South Africa as well. However here is an unlikely place to find shipping lists to Australia!
Rosemary is constantly adding to these lists

Good luck
