Armagh / Hugh Pierce & Elizabeth Allen married 1825 Armagh
« on: Wednesday 02 March 16 18:22 GMT (UK)  »
Has anyone come across Hugh Pierce of Armagh, possibly Shankill?  One of my ancestors Hugh Pierce married Margaret Hill in 1852 Shankill, his father is noted as Hugh Pierce, I can't find anything about Hugh/Hugh Jr in  Armagh apart from the 1825 and 1852 marriages.  The Hugh who married in 1825 may not be my Hugh's father.  My Hugh and Margaret moved to Huddersfield somewhere between Mary's birth in 1859 and Hugh's birth in 1861.  Hugh's surname is spelt as Pearce on English records/census returns

Hi

This is a photo of my  late Mum Mavis  (bridesmaid top right) at her Uncles wedding.  The original belongs to Mum's cousin, this is a copy I was sent, unfortunately although undamaged the quality is poor just wondering if it could be cleaned up at all.  I've had to wait a long time to get this photo, so I don't want to offend her by asking her if she can get a better quality scan.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Any advice damaged/dirty negatives
« on: Tuesday 18 August 15 14:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I've been scanning old negatives and noticed some had what would look like water damage, a dull film on the rear of 110 negatives others have chalky pale cream areas on them also on the rear of the film, they are around 20-30 years old and were stored in a box, tried scanning but they are way beyond any form of photograph restoring, I have nothing to lose by trying to clean them so any advice would be welcome.

The photos are of my family including me so I know the rules about living people I will post a few photos showing  the type of damage that shows on the scans without featuring any living people, to show how the photos would be beyond any photo software cleaning, unless you guys know of a good programme (easy to use, not that up on photo restoration) that I could try on the photos and then bin the negatives

Hi

I'd love to see this photo colourised, no idea of the original colours Mum bridesmaid on the right had brown hair hazel eyes pale complexion, Auntie Jean bride had light brown hair blue eyes pale complexion, Jean Swift bridesmaid left, no idea probably blonde hair and pale complexion, the little girl looks to have brown hair pale complexion, if anyone is up for a challenge try any colour scheme you like for the dresses, pale cream, pink, lime, lemon, light blue etc.  Unfortunately there's nobody left to tell me what colour they were wearing on the day

World War One / Thomas Richardson Harrogate Royal Engineers
« on: Friday 31 July 15 21:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I know this is Hubbys Gt Grandfather Thomas Richardson 1879 Harrogate Herald 12 Dec 1917 Private T Richardson of the West Yorks, now attached to the Railway Operating Department, of the Royal Engineers, came to see me last Wednesday. He is the son of Mrs. Waring, 2 Park Row, Harrogate.  I have come across a medal card that could be for him but not sure and can't seem to find anything about his WW1 records on ancestry or FindMyPast
RE 274391
KOYLI 39886
RE R.26553
Medal Victory RE/103? illegible Page 1538
If this makes sense to anyone I would appreciate any further info relating to Thomas.  I have come across far more information relating to his brother Alfred, Thomas seems to be more elusive

Hi

I have a brick wall in my family tree regarding Rob't Peirson c1729 and Jane Sleightholm c1731 who married Rosedale of this parish 26 Jun 1766, neither of whom were born in Rosedale, and Jane is not the daughter of Bartholomewe Sleightholm of Gt Edstone as I had previously thought.

I have found Jane Sleightham bapt 13 Jun 1731 St Hilda Danby Guisborough to William Sleightham.
There doesn't seem to be a birth for Rob't Peirson around 1729 although Eliz Peirson was bapt 4 Nov 1731 to Rob't Peirson Danby St Hilda possibly his father and for some reason his bapt is missing?  Rob't Perison married Eliz Helm 21 May 1749 Danby a possible first marriage with sons Thomas 1758 and John 1760?  This is just basic research I need to do more research, but I wondered if any rootschatters had Peirsons or Sleightholms from Danby in their family trees and could indicate if I am working in the right direction or just wasting my time.

World War One / Private T A Nelson Northumberland Fusiliers
« on: Tuesday 21 July 15 19:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi

While looking through records at the library I came across information regarding hubbys Grandfather Thomas Arthur Nelson born 1894 to William Nelson, there was a small grainy photocopied photo in a prisoners of war folder with the following details

T A Nelson Pte. Northumberland Fusiliers High St Darley, second son of Mr & Mrs W Nelson, High Street, Darley Ackrills Annuals illustrated 1918 p168

There was no further information regarding when or where captured, if he was injured etc, so I thought you guys know your WW1 stuff, fingers crossed you can help me find more about him

Norfolk / Walter Butters Criminal Record pre 1874 Besthorpe area
« on: Monday 20 July 15 21:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I knew hubbys ancestor Walter Butters had a criminal record from a newspaper report April 1880 and was sentenced to 21 days at Norwich Castle Gaol as he couldn't afford to pay the fine for being drunk and disorderly, today I found a H0104 record on FindMyPast for attempted theft January 1874, but there is a mention of previous sentences of one misdemeanour 7 days and summarily one larceny 1 calendar month, but I've not found these so any help would be appreciated.

There is a mention of Bill Ignored, I've not seen that before, any ideas what it means?
