Australia / Re: South Australia: Alexander Johnston
« on: Wednesday 17 July 19 13:45 BST (UK)  »
I think it is a possibility that another member of the Johnston family come out before Alexander in 1855.  it is interesting to see that another Johnston has married a savage and all the names are the family names, do I will definitely look into that family and see if I can see a connection.
I don't know anything about Alexander Johnston except what is in the family bible, which basically just mentions his name and then he turns up on the shipping records with the savage children.
cheers

Australia / South Australia: Alexander Johnston

Hi, I have a Alexander Johnston that come over to South Australia in 1855 he was 37 years old.
He travelled with William and Alexander Savage (aged 16 and 15) and also Elizabeth and Jane Savage (aged 12 and 10).
From a family bible I suspect that Alexander Johnston was the Uncle of these 4 Savage children.
I suspect that the parents of the 4 children were William ROBERT Savage and Margaret Johnston therefore Alexander possibly the brother of Margaret Johnston. (the parents names are in the family bible)
When William Savage died near Woodside South Australia the witness on the death was a G.Johnston (C) and I have been told C was for cousin.  I have lots of Savage information but I can't find anything on the Johnston family, any help would be great, thank you.

I have just found a Arthur James Drumm buried in West Terrace, DOD 22.4.1914 aged 41.  This fits except for spelling of last name.
he is buried with a Frances Drumm DOD 28.8.1904 aged 50 (born 1854) and this could be his mother - I will follow this through.

No, I don't know anything about him.   One Family story is that he was Polynesian.
I figured if I could find his death I could work my way back from there.

Thanks Sue - I did a Trove search, but didn't get these come up.  I should make my searchers broader maybe :)
So now we know that he died before 1925.

Hi All
I have a Arthur James Drummond that married a Clara Jane Donnelly in Adelaide in 1898.
Their children all born in Adelaide are:
Leslie 1898-1970
Arthur Albert - 1899-1960
Alice Pretoria - 1900-1986
Violet Linda - 1903-1972
Frances Gladys - 1906-1986
Arnold Lawrence - 1907-1982.

Clara died in 1944 and is buried in west terrace cemetery in the same plot as her mother Julia.
Clara was a nurse.
From Arthur James Drummond and Clara Donnelly's marriage certificate I can conclude that Arthur was born abt 1872 (he was 26 when he married in Dec 1898) and his father was James.
But that is all I can find on Arthur James Drummond.  I can't find his birth, or his death.  I can't find any mention of him in any papers, electrical rolls etc.
Any ideas??
there are trees on Ancestry connecting him to a James Drummond from Scotland and died in Victoria, but this James is not correct, I have followed that James right through and have his death certificate as well, he is Not Arthur James Drummonds father.
hoping someone can help.
cheers
Megan
