Scotland / Re: New contract for ScotlandsPeople website 2016
« on: Friday 15 January 16 10:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

There shouldn't be any change in Scotlandspeople as it is a Scottish Government website (note the URL .gov.uk)  DC Thomson (the owners of Findmypast) are contracted to run the website on behalf of the Scottish Government and for what ever reason there is going to be a change of contractor. There may be some inconvenience during the changeover, and possibly changes to the website look and layout.

Yes Rosie,its still odd,
as there are 7 missing years for him on Electoral Rolls.
1928,30,31,32,35,36,38.

A search for 172 Burbage Road doesn't get any results for 1928,30,31,32,35, you would need to check to see if the Electoral Roll is online for that address for those years. For 1936 and 1938 the occupants are McDonald and I can't see an result for 1937. The last Todman entry for 172 Burbage that I can find is 1935.

Don't assume that just because he was on the roll that he was in England, he could have just been left on.

Some passengers from India, Australia, the Far East etc travelling home via the Suez Canal would disembark at a Mediterranean Port and travel across Europe by train and Channel ferry. This avoided the Bay of Biscay which was rather notorious for storms, and was also quicker.

Australia / Re: Taking photographes in melbourne library

Hi

If you are referring to the State Library Victoria then you may need to check the catalogue to see if they need to be ordered in from North Melbourne.

One thing I have noticed. When I start a new thread about someone connected or perhaps mentioned (but not the subject person) in an earlier thread of mine and put a link to my older thread, the new post sits in limbo waiting for moderator approval. It can be some time before it appears on the forum.

I think that if a new thread has a website link it is automatically referred to a moderator to ensure it is a genuine post and not spam.

« on: Monday 11 January 16 03:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

There is an entry in the National Probate Calendar for an Ada Smith, a widow, of 65 All Saints Avenue, Margate who died 29th April 1963 at The General hospital. Margate.  Probate Birmingham 5th June to Alec Thomas Smith, civil servant.   Margate is in the Thanet Registration district and the age and date match the June Qtr death registration.

Hi

The link below suggests that that road was called Liverpool Street in the 1920s. This suggests that the reference to Liverpool Road is simply a mistake. How it was made would depend upon the process used at that time to create the Electoral Roll.
