Do you have his marriage certificate, if so who does it say his father is and his occupation - who are the witnesses.  I see he was born c1879. 

ADDED
If he was married here (Poplar) in 1906 have you found him on the 1911 census - that should give a place of birth.

Do you have Caroline on census anywhere that would give us a clue where to look, especially with a surname like Brown.  How do you know her mother is likely to be an Ann.

RG10/4916 f14 p21 has Frances bn Guernsey married to William Robson with a 1yr old son. It would certainly explain why she was referred to as a niece of William and Rachel and given the surname Robson on the 1871  ???
