Armed Forces / Navy Records of Henry George, and Ralph Charles Dawkins
« on: Tuesday 13 April 10 00:38 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help me with this Naval Record of Henry George Dawkins.

I can make out many of the names of the ships that he worked on, but not all. The ones that I can read are Pembroke II, Blenheim, Victory II, and Victorious, but what are the others. Beside the names are numbers under the 'List and No.' column, but I don't know where I can reference these numbers and find more information on these ships. I'd like to find out if the Blenheim 14 336 is the one that ended up wrecked.
Under 'Badges' there are a list of letters and numbers. What are these? And at the bottom under 'Remarks' there are symbols and writing that I cannot decipher.

Click on the link below to view the image.

Any help from anyone will be gratefully appreciated.

The Common Room / Boxer?
« on: Wednesday 06 January 10 16:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm not sure which category this should go under but, my grandfather has given me some information about his father that he would like me to look into but, I don't know where to start looking.

He says that his father, John Tiplady, told him that he was a boxer between 1918-1920 in the White Chapel area and may have gone by the name of 'Young Draper'.

What I do know is that he was born in Luton, Bedfordshire in 1890, and later became apart of the travelling community.

Can anyone tell me how I would go about researching this boxing information.

Many thanks,

Paul

Durham Lookup Requests / Johnson 1881 Census Look Up Please
« on: Wednesday 12 December 07 11:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,  8)

I am trying to trace my Johnson ancestry but finding it very difficult. I would be very grateful if you could do an 1881 census look up for George Johnson who was born about 1861 in New Durham, Wingate, County Durham. He was a miner and so was his father, also called George, but I do not know when he was born.
In 1886, George jnr was living in Cornforth Lane, Cornforth or Coxhoe, County Durham, when he married Elizabeth Emma Bridges at Holy Trinity Church, West Cornforth, Ferryhill, Durham. Then in 1901 he had moved back to Wingate, County Durham.

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated,

Many thanks,

Paul Johnson

Kent Lookup Requests / Dawkins from Deal?
« on: Monday 10 September 07 20:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I would be very grateful if someone could look up Dawkins of Deal.
One of my ancestors has stated that he was born in Deal Kent in c1824 on his 1861 census. His name was William Dawkins, and at the time of the 1861 census, he was a Master Mariner on a boat in Scotland but, he actually resided in Hartlepool, County Durham, England. I am finding it very difficult to get past him.

Any help with this one would be greatly appreciated.

Travelling People / Tiplady
« on: Sunday 26 August 07 12:34 BST (UK)  »
My ancestors came from a travelling community. Their surname was Tiplady.
Can anyone help me find information about the community that they travelled with.

They originated in the south of England around Luton/Watford area about the 1850's/1890's, and settled in Seaton Crew, just south of Hartlepool in the late 1930's

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
