James Charles Nottingham was born 14 Mar 1874 @ 50 Regent Street Lambeth; father Charles Nottingham engine fitter mother Sarah Nottingham formerly Dunn. Registered by mother who made her mark. Seem straightforward? Heck no.

Elizabeth Dunn née Clegg was widowed in 1867 & remarried to James Nottingham. Her 2 daughters Alice & Sarah were living with them.
In 1872 Charles marries Alice Mary Dunn his step-sister, Sarah Dunn is a witness.
Marriages Dec 1872
Dunn Alice Mary Lambeth 1d 469
Nottingham Charles Lambeth 1d 469
and in 1874 they have Elizabeth Frances
Births Jun 1874
Nottingham Elizabeth Frances DUNN Lambeth 1d 426 who is baptised 9 May St. Mary's Lambeth. James Charles, born same quarter to her husband and sister, is NOT baptised with her. I can find no baptism or death for him, and no further records.
In 1875 Sarah marries James Tremelling as a spinster; she signs. There appears there never was a marriage for her to Charles so the registration for James Charles Nottingham was not exactly correct.
Marriages Dec 1875
DUNN Sarah Lambeth 1d 798
Tremelling James Humphery Lambeth 1d 798
Hmmm, so it appears Charles, after his marriage to Alice, conceived a child with her sister Sarah
who is my great grandmother at the same time as conceiving one with his wife.
Can anyone find any records for James Charles? Maybe he was adopted, he doesn't appear with Sarah at any date afterwards.
Thanks for any help.
