« on: Monday 29 January 07 17:20 GMT (UK)  »
My GGG is recorded as out of Business publican on 1871 census
On his sons birth Cert 1869 his occupation is publican. The son was born in Pillory St Nantwich Cheshire.
Any one got any ideas how I can found out the name of the pub he ran (not very well!!)
I have tried the trade directories?

Thanks this is very interesting. My GGGGGrandad was in the 66th Reg from 1809 to 1815 and discharge 1815 age 19. So he must have joined very young. I presume he was invalided out later joined the 4th Royal Veterans who where stationed at Fort George when his children were born.

I though that he might have been injured in the Peninsula War. Any thoughts?

Hi Annie

Sorry no good at this IT stuff. Don't know how it post it and am having probs with my PC at the moment, can't get onto Ancestry to get it.

But if you can her name is Catherine Johnson she is boarding with Ellen and Marth Kenerley in Weaverham Cheshire on 1861 census

If you do have a look at it can you read her occupation?

Thanks ZKT

My GGGGgrandma was born in Ireland in about 1795

I know her husband was Bernard Irons Soldier at Fort George Scotland where 2 of her children where born between 1820 - 1825

There is a gap then til she and a daugther turn up in Cheshire in 1840s

The census states she was born  Balawak,Kow, Ireland.
Can any one identify this place. It might be spelt incorrectly but this is how it appears on the census!!!!

I have an ancestor born at Fort George. I know her father was Bernard Irons Soldier so I presume he was stationed at Fort George. He also had a son born there. The children were born between 1820 and 1824.

I am trying to find out about Bernard Irons Soldier. I can't find any of the family on any census or births, marriages or deaths before 1851

I have his daughters marriage certificate that names her father as Bernard Irons and occupation as soldier and the 1851 census gives her birth place as Fort George. I know his wife was Irish

Can anyone tell me how I find out what regiments we stationed at Fort George 1820 -24
and how I might find out his military history.
