Essex / Re: Who was Cissie's mysterious husband?

Thank you again, Marian Miles might be the redacted entry - it's a short surname.
I've just ordered Cissie's will, estimated delivery 1st July

Got the will a few minutes ago - much quicker than they said.
Unfortunately not much help with the husband mystery. It went to administration because she didn't name an executor. Admin was granted to Cyril Walter Roper who lived in the same street in Welwyn GC. The will was made 14 June 1976, Cissie died 11 July 1976, admin granted 27 July 1976. Estate value 121.19.
beneficiaries: Cyril Walter Roper and two people with same surname at same address. (Cyril has died but others may still be living)
Sounds like they are neighbours who have looked after her, because she says she does this with the full knowledge of her niece (name given in will, but may still be living) because they have been kindness itself to her.

Eureka!
Using her date of birth in the free search, it looks like George and Ada are together in Islington in 1939!
Ada E Jackson, born 20 Nov, but one year out, 1916
Edwin Jackson, born 6 Oct, also a year out, 1907

I've found a number of people whose year of birth is one year later than it should be. Often when their birthday falls later than the date of 1939 register.
It's as if George Edwin took his age in September 1939 (32) and then subtracted it from 1939, to get his year of birth, forgetting that he would be 33 by the end of the year. Same theory works for Ada.

John, is the Jackson-Jones marriage you mean the one in Islington in June qtr 1953?
George E Jackson to Ada E Jones / Ada E Jackson.
Rather than the earlier Lewisham one (George E A / Elma A)

jonw65, You are correct, I slipped up there, must be the 1953 marriage.

JOhn

On the 1939 register Ada's name has been crossed through in red and a note on the right says "Entry re-opened 26-4-55 see page 1  CR363a"
There is also a redacted 3rd entry in the same household.
Could 1955 be when NHS were notified of the marriage?

Well done Jon. So the real George was living with Ada as a married couple in 1939. I wonder if they were together on 1937 - 1939 electoral registers?

In the end they refused to renew my ticket and a lot of money was thrown away!!

Surely that's illegal. Unless their T & C state "we can cancel for whatever reason we like and we will keep your money"  ???

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Ancestry DNA / New Confirm Match options
« on: Wednesday 16 June 21 14:14 BST (UK)  »
Apart from the days that they went online, I'm fairly sure I have never had as many as 55 new matches at once for any of the tests I manage.  :(

The number is what appears under groups for new matches. It wouldn't be the number of new ones for each day. I don't know how long Ancestry classifies them as new for. Possibly the total in a rolling fortnight. I seem to have had about 4 or 5 new ones per day for the last few days.

Odd to give a child the same name as a living son.
Just found Walter, his parents and siblings in the workhouse in 1912
