Hi RJP75

This was such a long time ago, I honestly can't remember off hand!
I think I might have had some success with the Thomas - let me rummage through my stuff and get back to you.

The Common Room / Re: A word of warning!!
« on: Thursday 07 May 09 12:18 BST (UK)  »
This is a fairly common experience and I think part of the problem is allowing someone access to your tree also implies permission for them to use (or copy) it.
I know it's frustrating, particularly if living rellies are included, but other than asking them to remove/edit such information there's little that can be done about it  ::)

Thats what I thought too (great minds .......... ;))

Armed Forces / Who's official next of kin?
« on: Friday 20 March 09 18:56 GMT (UK)  »
I've just found out that my grandmothers brother died in WW2 in 1944. He is buried in Ranville War Cemetery.
I've got a few details from CWGC (rank, number, etc) but I'd like to know more, if possible.

I've been on VeteransUK website looking to see if its possible for me gain a copy of his service records and/or medals he may have won. It appears that I need permission from either the person named or their official next of kin.

The problem is I have no idea who his next of kin is.

When he died he was unmarried with no children.
His parents died when he was a child and he was brought up in a home (with his siblings)
His grandmother is named on a CWGC certificate - so she may have been next of kin at the time, but she died in 1961.
All his siblings are now dead - the last one in 1994.

The only surviving family members he has are various nieces/nephews & great nieces/nephews.

So...... who would be classed as next of kin? Is it worth me trying anyway?

Any opinions/advice gratefully received.

Scotland / SP - marriages after 1933
« on: Monday 09 March 09 09:26 GMT (UK)  »
Is there a particular reason why you cannot search for a marriage on SP after 1933?

I know on the site it says that births/marriages/deaths after certain years are not viewable (and I understand the reasons for this)
But for births and deaths it allows you to search up to 2006 and if necessary order an extract.

I just wondered why it isnt possible to do this for marriages?

Thanks

Scotland / Would there have been an inquest?
« on: Friday 06 March 09 17:09 GMT (UK)  »
Just found a death certificate for my grandmothers brother.

He died in 1920 aged 2months due to "Accidental Overlaying".
His death cert has an added RCE which reads - Found dead about 8.30am, alive 6hrs previous. Cause of death suffocation by accidental overlaying.
Underneath this it says: Procurator Fiscals Office, Paisley, 01 March 1921.

Would there have been some sort of inquest and if so is it possible to find out more?

Thanks
Sueky

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Re: A date for Mary please
« on: Monday 23 February 09 23:15 GMT (UK)  »
It wouldn't surprise me in the least - mums side of the family is rife with illegitimate children!

Martha married in 1921 & mum remembers at least 3 children. She was never really close to these cousins though as she said they were all much older than her (mum was born in 1938)

I do agree that she looks like she's expecting, it's shows much clearer now the pic has been cleaned up and enlarged, the actual photo I've got is tiny (2" x 3") and very dark.

Further investigation needed I think  :)
