well--have had a happy time checking information from you all, and "googling" around--including finding via the latter a message on here in 2008 with an almost identical query!

I have found a few leads to follow up inc that there are some records held at Liverpool RO-need to contact there as think they are closed just now.

I now know more & have a couple of things to look up still--so--thank you all.

Hi Finbar--I'll try this--thank you

Lancashire / KIRKDALE HOMES, LIVERPOOL
« on: Saturday 21 August 10 13:55 BST (UK)  »
I received my grandfather's  death certificate this morning. The  address where he died was given as 241 Westminster Road, Liverpool 4. He was descibed as being " of no fixed abode"--aged 77 descibed as a labourer. The informant  was  "occupier"

A cousin thought that he was living in the Kirkdale Homes at one point--we weren't sure if this was for "old people" or for sick people.
However going by the term "no fixed abode" it sounds as though it could be a lodging house where people went to at night but had to leave the next day?

Can anybody give me any information please?

Thank you

Thank you for your reply Bob.

I had tried to trace Elizabeth's birth without success so I'm very pleased to learn who her father was-also, I had no idea that Elizabeth had another sister so thank you for that too.

I must see if I can get into the church at Coalville sometime -I have seen the outside--I have family in Nottingham & they took me to Coalville, Coleorton. Kirby Muxloe, Hugglescote & other local places associated  with William Stenson & his daughter Charlotte, but it was a quick tour round to give me an idea of the area..

My Stenson connection:

William & Hannah (Varnham) Stenson had a daughter Charlotte b1801

Charlotte m ( another) William Stenson-they had a son Thomas 1838

Thomas m Sarah Jane Mitchell --they had a daughter Charlotte b 1864

This Charlotte Stenson was my great grandmother

Yes--thank you--there is a one name Stenson study-Nigel Rixson got in touch with me some time ago, but I have been  fortunate in being able to contact other Stenson descendants  who have been helpful.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / BAPTISM LOOK UP PLEASE-LANCASHIRE RECORDS OFFICE
« on: Tuesday 18 November 08 21:00 GMT (UK)  »
MY 3 x great grandfather CHARLES MOSS, was born in ORMSKIRK c 1806

I have his marriage record in Liverpool in 1832, but of course, no name of his father at that time. A witness was named as James Moss--who could have been the father of Charles.

I have information from his marriage until his death --also in Liverpool, but have been unable to find a baptism record
I am assuming that the record will be under St Peter's & St Paul.s church Ormskirk

If anybody is going to Lancashire records office and has the time, I'd be very grateful if you could do a birth look up for me please

Thank you--Eileen

I have another --slightly distant-- connection to George Stephenson!

A niece of George Stephenson--Elizabeth --married  John Forester Stenson 16/02/1836 at Whitwick Leics.. John Stenson was a son of William Stenson "father of Coalville." William was my 4 x great grandfather .
According to a newspaper report of the time, when William Stenson wanted to open a rail line for the mine he'd opened to join the main Leicester line, he asked George to come & give advice.Eventually, son Robert Stephenson developed this--the Swannington  & Leicester railway

Can anyone give me any details of a brother of George who would have been Elizabeth's father please? Elizabeth had a sister Mabel, who in 1851 was living with John & Elizabeth.  John died in  1863,. In 1871, the 2 sisters were living together in London Road Leicester.
Thank you
