Many thanks, Boo.
I reckon John of Fordun had necked a few pints of mead and got confused!
Cheers,
Bob

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Translation of Latin - Help Needed!

Can anyone translate the attached, please? It's from John of Fordun's Chronicle (1871 version) edited by Skene. In particular, I'd like precise details of the parts concerning Isabella.
Many thanks,
Bob

Thanks, Carole.
I've looked at John of Fordun's 14th C Chronicle which puts the marriage before 1219. Others, including Stringer, put it as early as 1210. Both these dates fit in with my line of research.
Cheers,
Bob

Scotland / Isabel, wife of Robert de Brus
« on: Thursday 28 March 24 09:59 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me the year that Robert de Brus (4th Lord of Annandale) wed Isabel, sister of John, earl of Huntingdon, please? Also, does anyone know the year Isabel was born, and John, her brother?
Cheers,
Bob

Aberdeenshire / Bruce holdings in the county
« on: Sunday 24 March 24 11:30 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me if the Bruce's held land in Aberdeenshire before Robert, 4th Lord of Annandale, wed Isabel, daughter of David, Earl of Huntingdon? I'm interested to know if the first two Lords of Annandale had any connections to Aberdeenshire.

Cheers,

Bob

Bedfordshire / Re: ARMSTRONGS of Ravensden

One note of caution re some pedigrees currently doing the rounds, Ann:

Thomas Armstrong & Phoebe (nee Wisson) had an eldest child named Edith, born in 1789 in Upper Gravenhurst. She wed a James Mackenness in 1812 in Clophill. She isn't to be confused with Edith, daughter of Samuel Armstrong who was chr in 1788 in Elstow. This latter Edith wed Samuel Busby.

I strongly suspect that Samuel Armstrong was a another son of John Armstrong & Edith (nee Grange). He appears to be a likely brother of Thomas who wed Phoebe (Wisson).

I apologise because this has been done to death, but thought it worth clarifying - especially as some erroneous pedigrees have surfaced.

Cheers,

Bob

Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Hannah Armstrong of Cople

In the intervening years, Y-DNA shows the Armstrongs of Bedfordshire are part of the Armstrong mainstream descent cluster. The DNA suggests ancient Scottish roots via the Beaker Folk who entered north-east Scotland.
