Northamptonshire / The Nursery Silverstone !871
« on: Monday 27 August 07 20:04 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know what the Nursery was in the 1871 Census forSilverstone.
It was given as an address but did it belong to an Estate.
Pryce Baud b.1835 gave his occupation as Gardener.moving from Silverstone to Rotherham sometime in the 1870 but still as a Gardener as was his son Benjamin.
Thank you

World War One / Re: Pte R Barker WW1 Medal

Hi Wendy David
Thank you for this.It does seem likely this is one and the same.Do either of you know what kind of details are on this medal index.
I recently purchased one from the archives for a family member which only gave the name regimental number and Died on it,all this I knew anyway.
If this is all the information on these cards it does'nt seem worth it especially as with sites like this that are free and people like yourselves who are so kind and generous with your help and information
thank you

World War One / Pte R Barker WW1 Medal
« on: Sunday 12 August 07 10:38 BST (UK)  »
I have just bought a 1914-1915 Srar Medal with the following information on the back.
3408 Pte R Barker Yorks . L.I.
I bought this for the ribbon which is missing on my Grandfathers Medal but I am interested in finding out who this soldier was.
I cant find him on GWCC or from his Medal record card on Ancestry.Has anyone any ideas. Also the ribbon is dirty,is it wise to try and clean/wash it?
I think this soldier had a connection to Sheffield as this was the place of the Charity Shop where bought.
Thank you

James Smith occupation given as Blacksmith married Margaret Sangster c.1825
Children Alexander 1826 Margaret 1827 Marjory 1830 Jane[Beattie] Smith1837.
Her husband must have died for on the 1840 census a James Bisset 9/12 is shown and in the 1851 census she is calling herself Bisset and living
 with a John Bisset.
I'm not familiar with the Scottish Registration system so I would appreciate any help.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: !901 Census Frank and Sarah Ann Cooper

Hi Daisy
Thank you so much for going to all this trouble. It certainly seems feasible  but what a tragic set of circumstances for poor Sarah.
I think I've found marriages for both children in 1912 and 1914 respectively and hopefully they had more luck than their Mum but as you say only the marriage certificate will tell.
Once again thank you so much for your sterling work

Hi Daisy
Thank you for this.I think these are the children,i wonder if both parents have died.I cant find them but I'll do a bit more digging around deaths rather than census,

Yes the death ties in with the dates I've got but I cant find as yet Sarah's remarriage or any of the children who would still be Cooper.I know this is not always the case and after a remarriage the children often took on the step fathers name.
Thank you for your interest anyway
