Lancashire / Where's Newton Lancs
« on: Saturday 21 June 08 18:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I'm trying to find Sarah Ann Strickland who  gives her  d.o.b.as c1870 in Newton Lancs but who was christened in 1871 in Sheffield.
Her parents John and Elizabeth[Calvert] Strickland were married in Manchester Parish Church and lived in the Ancoats area of Manchester.
I cant find this family at all on either the 1861 or 1871 Census for Lancs or Yorks.
I would appreciate any ideas of where to look next.
Thank you

Technical Help / Re: Cant print image from ScotlandsPeople
« on: Saturday 19 January 08 18:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Lizzie
Just read that with a sinking feeling.ScotlandsPeople are so unhelpful.before I had the printing problem,I bought £6 credits which I've done before when searchingCensus and Parish Records only to find out that you cant download Wills from your Credits. When I complained about this I was treat like a naughty schoolgirl but eventually was reimbused the credits then filled in an identical form to purchase The Will and Testament.I'm now dreading the 1911 Census.
You heard it here first!!

Technical Help / Cant print image from ScotlandsPeople
« on: Saturday 19 January 08 17:59 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me how to print from the Scotlandspeople Website.I purchased a £5 Will and Testament from them which comes as a download.
This was o.k. and the 5 page images are saved in "Viewed Images" which I can access indefinitely but it wont let me print them.
I've tried various options like clicking on the print icon using the toolbar file print but each time I get the web page headingprinted
but the image comes out with solid ink.I've wasted nearly a cartridge trying to sort this out not cheap when you're using Dell Printer.
I've tried ScotlandsPeoples Help and FAQ icons but with no luck.I just hope some kind person knows how to sort this out.I'm just glad I have'nt got many Scottish relatives I've never come across such an unuser friendly site
Please Help!!!!

Northumberland Lookup Requests / Re: O'Connor Census Lookup
« on: Friday 14 December 07 15:59 GMT (UK)  »
Hi michael
I'm afraid I dont know anything more of this couple. They are not family but are part of my Mum's and Aunt's childhood or at least Margaret was.
I am recording Mum's early life while she and her sister are still alive. They are 88 and 93 respectively.
The address in the 1901 Census is the one Mum remembers where they lived, although only Mrs O'Connor was there then. She had a memorial plaque attached to her wall with her sons name on them who were both killed in WW1.Its these names that I'm trying to trace.
I thought earlier census's would give them but I cant find John O'Connor b NorthShields .
The War Graves site have too many O'Connors with not enough information to match.
Thank you for your interest anyway

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) Lookup Requests / Re: George Naylor Master Builder York
« on: Tuesday 20 November 07 09:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Pels
Its so confusing is'nt it?They were'nt very adventurous when they named the children.
I'm just trying to sort all this out.I think I've mixed up the 2 williams. One was a Flax Weaver and one a Pipe maker.
I think "my William" is the Pipemaker although later as a Builinig Lab.George's Birth Certificate states 18th April 1840 then a time so presumably he was a twin.Mother Mary Ann Jackson father William Pipe Maker.
I also have a Marriage certificate for George January 9th 1864 to Ann Elizabeth Buck he was a Bricklayer and father William Pipemaker.Obviously Father and son but are they mine
What do you think?
Thank you
harriet

Hi Pels
So sorry,I did have that one.I've spent so much time and a few "duff" certificates on George Naylor [There are so many in Yorkshire] that I'm not thinking straight now! Or it could be a Senior Moment
Anyway thank you for the prompt reply
