OK so it is back to the registry offices, bother.

Just out of interest how did you find out the range of page numbers for the quarter? (869 - 921)

I have a GRO reference for this of 2nd Quarter 1916 Epping 4a 917 and have trawled through the online parish registers on SEAX.

Following the alphabetical list of parishes, Theydon Garnon has a wedding in the same quarter with the reference 913, so which parish would have my wedding?

(in 1916, Waltham Holy Cross was in Edmonton and Willingale Doe/Spain in Ongar)

World War One / Re: how to find a wife

I really don't know how I missed that marriage, I will certainly be sending of for the certificate to check it is the correct groom but think it is pretty likely.
As you say married in the june quarter of 1916 and killed September, it wasn't the longest marriage.  Hope they were happy.

Many thanks to everyone for their help

World War One / how to find a wife
« on: Tuesday 14 April 15 22:11 BST (UK)  »
I have just downloaded the soldiers final effects from Ancestry for my great uncle John Henry Crane (no 9162) who served with the Royal Munster Fusiliers and was killed on 22.9.1916.

Imagine my surprise when his effects were left to a wife Florence Emma, who none of our family knew of.

In the 1911 census he was single and I cannot find a record of his marriage.

Can anyone help me please.

Have just renewed my subscription for £74.68, the start date has automatically been set for the end of my previous subscription,
so thank you everyone for the saving you have made me.

thank you for that link.

my subscription is with the UK/British site so I was surprised to find that the email was from the Australian site inviting me to renew.
My subscription runs out on 16th October.  If I renew now, do you think the renewal will count from that date or will I be giving them a couple of weeks?
Although the email said it had applied the discount, it obviously hadn't as it was still trying to charge me £99.

Census and Resource Discussion / Renewing my findmypast subscription

I had decided to stay with findmypast, as I have been with it for a long time and it might get back to being as good as it has been.

So I turned on my auto renew again and got an email from the Australian branch saying they were going to charge me £99 including my 10% discount to renew for the UK.
I have noticed if you just go on the internet to buy subscription it can be got for £89 so what should I be paying?

I have cancelled my auto renew again and emailed them but to date received no response.
