Technical Help / Trouble signing into IGI
« on: Wednesday 02 December 20 14:47 GMT (UK)  »
Is anyone else having trouble signing into their IGI aka FamilySearch account?

I have tried over the last couple of weeks and each time I start get told username or password are incorrect. (I know they are not) but still went through the reset user name and password, to be immediate told it was incorrect (again).  I had cut and pasted the new bits to make sure no typo errors.

Still can't get in so any ideas?

ah, Davison makes sense.  I have no idea where the name mother's maiden name Wells came from. That will take more exploration.

Thank you so much for your help

many thanks for that information.

His father divorced in 1928 and Herbert was born to 'the other woman' before that which might explain the delay in registering.

I am looking at the BMD index for Herbert AK Keene born 1920, died 1976 and wondered what the comment ' see M'37 ' means as a page reference.

Not met this before.

2019 my parents died (they were both well over 90).
Both died in the same room but six weeks apart. I registered the first in Suffolk where they lived but got refused on the second and had to go to Cambridge!
So they have different registration districts!

The Common Room / problems on newspaper searches
« on: Sunday 26 July 20 14:16 BST (UK)  »
Using findmypast, I searched by entering the county of Suffolk and surname 'Alston' and found lots of wonderful stories about my ancestors.

So trying for other branches of the family eg surnames 'French' or 'Bacon' - oh dear, it is amusing what comes up but they are not linked to people.

Is there anyway I can persuade the search engine to only show me people?

thanks Stanmapstone,

I was taking Bermuda to be the ship name and Medway the place  - how easy it is to presume the wrong reason.

OK thanks for all your help, I am delighted that they are recognizable.
But now I am going to have to ask for help. Have tried to follow the instructions on both FindMyPast and ancestry but haven't managed to get them on either site.

Please could someone give me further help? I started in the A-Z search of 1861 and put prisoner in 'relationships', then tried various combinations of initials and parishes but didn't find them.

Unfortunately don't have 'the genealogist' so cannot see the HO8 series.

I am looking for a Henry Bacon (born 1834 Ardleigh) and Henry Merchant (b1826 Ardleigh) in the 1861 Census.

I now both are in prison at this time but cannot find them or the prison in the records.  According to the Millbank prison records  they were in 'Medingly' (?) Prison from 15th May 1857 until 23 Oct 1861.

 what or where is Medingly?
