Huntingdonshire Lookup Requests / Re: Ramsey Baptisms LOOKUP needed - Ibberson/Hunns
« on: Monday 09 October 23 23:55 BST (UK)  »
Thanks Galium, of course there are two  ::)

Hopefully the wills will help me keep them straight. My William Hunns died in 1677 (buried 29 Apr 1677), leaving a will (written 21 Apr 1677) in which he is described as William Hunns the elder. He names his children as, Jorat, Margaret, Grace, Edward & John. His wife was named as Elizabeth, whom he married 27 Feb 1662/3 (Elizabeth Tilley), after his first wife Margaret died in June 1662 following young Margaret's birth. Margaret Hunns born 1662 is my direct line.

William Hunns junior does not appear to be his son....possibly a nephew or cousin? William Hunns married Anne Potten 16 Oct 1666, and Dorothy born Feb 1666/67 must be their first child, hence the moniker junior being used.

Thank goodness for wills hey ;)

Hi Galium,

Thanks so much for looking those ones up for me ;)

Looks like we might be dealing with 2 John Ibberson/Eversons as there are two baptisms close together in 1688...

My John Ibberson left a will in 1722 mentioning his son Francis, and daughters Susannah (husband William Eate) & Elizabeth (married surname Lawrance), he also mentions his grandchildren (the children of Isaac Hanker, who had married Margaret Ibberson but she died in 1719).

Interesting that Francis does not show up in the Ramsey baptisms....he is my direct line. It is most likely that he was born after 1696, as he does not marry until 1723/4. He is not mentioned in his grandfather's will (Francis Ibberson 1693/4), but his sisters Susannah, Margaret and Ann are. So we are missing Ann as well....unless she is the unnamed daughter born in 1693. Which, now that I think about it makes sense as the will was written that year and Susannah and Margaret were born 1689 & 1691. The family were baptist by the 1740's so perhaps their non-conformism started before Francis' birth?

Did the Hunns family show up? Or are they also missing from the parish registers?

Hi All,

Hoping someone may be able to check the Huntingdon baptisms for the below families:

Children of John Ibberson/Everson of Ramsey (married 1686, buried 1722):
Jeremiah - buried 1686
Margaret - buried 1688
Susannah - married 1718
Margaret - married 1713
Ann
Elizabeth - married 1719
Francis - married 1723/24
Mary - buried 1720

Children of William Hunns of Ramsey (second marriage 1662/3, buried 1677)
Jorat/Gerat - eldest son in will
Margaret - abt 1662
Edward - abt 1663/4, buried 1664
Elizabeth - abt 1665, buried 1666
Thomas - abt 1667, buried 1667
William - abt 1668, buried 1669
Grace - abt 1670
Edward - abt 1673, married 1699
John - abt 1675 - youngest son in will

I have information from marriages, burials and wills, and am hoping that the baptisms will help me better sort them out ;)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Ah, ok Galium....that is very interesting!

So, it looks like his widow may have had twin daughters after Edmund died. Naming one of them Carrine certainly hints towards Edmund being the son of Henry & Carrina Overall of Ramsey. Sadly Henry also died in 1737. He does not mention Edmund's children in his will, but I suspect they may not have been born yet.

I wonder what became of Ann & her daughter Carrine?

Huntingdonshire / St Ives, Huntingdon - Parish Register - Look up request
« on: Thursday 10 August 23 12:58 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I am hoping SKS may have access to the parish registers for St Ives, Huntingdon, and be able to look up the baptisms for me.

I am looking for children born to Edmund & Anne Overall at St Ives.

Edmund Overall was buried at St Ives on 13 Dec 1736, and in his will (written 14 Nov 1736, proved Archdeaconry Court Huntingdon 14 May 1737) he states that his wife's name was Ann.

A child, named Ann (daughter of the widow Ann Overal) was buried at St Ives on 21 Oct 1737.

No children are mentioned in the will, though Ann could have been born after Edmund died. It is also possible that he had children, but just did not mention them in his will.

I was hoping someone may be able to check the baptisms for Ann Overall c1737, and/or any other children to this couple. I have not yet located Edmund & Ann's marriage either.

I believe that Edmund Overall was the eldest son of Henry Overall & Carrina Swaine of Ramsey, Hunts. There is a marriage for an Edmund Overall to Ann Bulkley in Hampshire in 1711, but this is for his uncle Edmund. Edmund Overall of St Ives, I believe, was born around 1710-12, most likely in Ramsey.

Any help would be appreciated  ;)

The Prerogative Court of Canterbury Wills, 1384-1858 should show up when you search in the 'Convict, Criminal, Land & Wills' section of Ancestry...but just in case the link to the record set is below:

https://www.ancestry.com.au/search/collections/5111/

You can get them free on The National Archives as well (since COVID), but like you say it is a bit more painful as you have to pop each one in your cart, then download them. The quality is a bit better on Ancestry too I find. If you have a subscription there, that would be where I would start.

The Huntingdon wills are available on Familysearch, you can't see the films from home though - you need to be at an LDS Family History Centre or Affiliate Library. My local Genealogical Society is an Affiliate Library, so I pop down there fairly frequently to access Familysearch films. I presume you have a Familysearch log in, if you don't you will need one. The Familysearch site has a weath of information...and you may find other Archdeaconry of Huntingdon records as well as the wills. Just go to the 'search catalog' section and start putting in place names, or keywords....it is a goldmine!

You can use the CALM database to look up whether a will exists or not, and if it does then look up the appropriate film on Familysearch, or.....as I have been having difficulty using the CALM site at present I have just been using the 'index to wills' film on Familysearch to check first. The index tells you which year the will was proved in, then when you look at the film for that year there is another index at the start that gives you the page number for the film. It is fairly straight forward to figure out ;)

The Film I have been using is: "Probate records for the Commissary Court of Lincoln for the Archdeaconry of Huntingdon, 1559-1857, 1559-1857"

https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/374857?availability=Family%20History%20Library

Film 187854 (the first one) is the index - named "Caldr. of wills vols. 1-3, 1615-1858"

The Archdeaconry of Huntingdon 'Marriage bonds & allegations 1662-1883' are available below:

https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/1127353?availability=Family%20History%20Library

I am sure there are a milliion other records on Familysearch that I haven't found yet....I do love digging about to see what I can find though!

What is the ‘paramulation of ramsey in ramsey pr' you refer to? What does it say about Henry Ibberson?

What is Dr Johnson's library in London? I am familiar with Dr Williams's Library in London and the Surman Index for Congregational Ministers, but not the one you are referring to...

Actually, it looks like William Shepperson's will is on Ancestry:

England & Wales, Prerogative Court of Canterbury Wills, 1384-1858
Name William Shepperson of Ramsey, Huntingdon, Gentleman
Probate Date 14 Aug 1816
Written 23 Dec 1815
Mentions:
GSon William the son of Robert Shepperson
Son Robert Shepperson
Son Joseph Shepperson
GDaus Jane Ingle, Hannah Ingle & Ann Ingle daus of Edward Ingle of Doddington
Land in Ramsey & Benwick
No mention of Great White specifically, and no mention of the Meeting House or Fullilove family

Sorry, we strike out again  ::)

P.S. Remember that the Henry with the 10 children (including Ann Beecheno) is not the Henry Ibberson that married Sarah Fullilove  ;D

I agree that it is likely that the witnesses of Thomas Ridlington's will in 1813 are Henry & Sarah Ibberson (nee Fullilove) and Henry's sister Carrina Bowker (nee Ibberson)...I'd love to find Sarah's death/burial at some point...

I did not look for a will for William Shepperson at the Archdeaconry of Huntingdon post 1792, but can do next time I am at my local genealogical society.

I have lots of documents relating to John Allen Jervis/Jarvis & Ann Ibberson, including the 9 items the CALM reference relates to. You can see this couple in my tree on Ancestry. I forgot to mention that my tree in Ancestry is just my direct line (including their children), and I have a much larger tree at home ;)

I'll e-mail you a copy of Coxe Feary's will in case it is of use to you
